PreK at Hyde - 14 IB students waitlisted.
Why are IB students being waitlisted if they have IB preference in the lottery? Were no OOB students accepted?
Correct - Hyde has an intake of 1 PreK class and there are more IB's students than spaces available. This is a major shift in population from just 3 years ago.

For 3rd Grade:
Shepherd 14 (OOB no preference)
Bernard 2 (OOB no preference)
Takoma (got in OOB no preference)
West 1 (OOB no preference)
For PK:
Truesdell (got in, IB with sibling)
Bernard 80 (OOB no preference)
Shepherd 47 (OOB no preference)
Takoma 8 (OOB with sibling accepted)
West 5 (OOB no preference)
These are our numbers. Now what happens if I don't take my spot in Takoma? Cause I'd rather take Shepherd and our best number there is 14, any chance? Or even Bernard which from what I have read here on the board is very likely to get. I am exited about Bernard BUT we'd only get 2 yrs there for our oldest and then it's back to Lottery AGAIN. We're also waiting for Charters, just to make things even more difficult.
At this point, you deal with the schools one on one. If you would never go to Takoma, turn down the spot. If you would go there, sent in the intent letter now, verify residency, and wait. I think your best chance at Sepherd is to wait until late Aug/ Sept. I suspect they are a school that does not at the 3rd grade level, call every person on the wait list. It may be hard to get the PreK into Shepherd in the fall, but not so hard the 3rd grader. I would look carefully at the quality of 3rd & 4th grade teachers at Shepherd. We left a couple of years ago, because these grades were weak, don't know if there has been turnover. Good thing about Shepherd is it feeds to Deal, so you would be set for middle school, if the OOB has a right to the feeder school continues to apply.

My friend's son is a in first now. But when they were doing the lottery their DS was going into K. I believe their DS had an excellent number like 6 or 7 for K and they never got a
Call. I suspect they didn't follow up with the school.

Does anyone have an opinion on HD Cooke wait list moving? It was our #1 choice and we're in the 30s on the wait list. Can it move that far?

delphia wrote:Okay, so how do you suppose Mayor Gray and the Council would feel about providing a tax credit to parents of 3yo's that were not accepted into any public and/or charter schools? Makes perfect sense to me. If the city/DCPS cannot facilitate all of the pre-school children in terms of schooling, then the city should help pay for their daycare. I live in a wonderful neighborhood, less than two blocks from my closest school (waitlisted), pay extremely high taxes, and now am told that there is not enough room in the school to accommodate my child. Nothing left to do but wait and continue with daycare, so as I see it, the city should help cover that expense.
What is unreasonable about that request? Seriously? Does anyone out there want to help me gather names and start a petition?
We have the option of keeping our child in daycare through pre-K and while it would nice not to pay for the next two years, I just don't think we can trade a known good thing for something that would likely have us playing this game all over again in two or three years.Anonymous wrote:For PS3:
We are 3rd on the waitlist for Cleveland Dual Language (OOB w/ Proximity). Anyone know how far down the list they did get last year? I see from another PP that they didn't get as far as 8.
13th for Langley
High numbers for Ross, Ludlow, Logan, and Brent.

Last year isn't really relevant with a number that low. Look at everyone above you and assume that everyone with a sibling is staying. How many people are not in that category? I would also call the school. It may help.
There are only 4 without sibling I believe.
