Oh please get the chip off of your shoulder! Why are you lurking on the private school thread then? I am sure note private schools need this type of transport because many children attend privates far from their house whereas public schools in most cases are in your neighborhood.

I'm sure there are lots of predators on city buses around town and colleges too. Hence all the public school and charter children using them. If a transportation service strictly for children is available background checks are almost 100% required.

A lot of people use Sittercity.com they perform background checks as well. I don't see the difference.

I admit that I'm pretty paranoid in general but I don't even think I'd be comfortable with a service specifically for children that had screened drivers. Just the thought of my kid in the car alone with someone gives me the willies.

We do this overseas (so much cheaper) and I had similar reservations. We have our nanny ride along.

If this isn't an option, I'd opt for a college student.

Can you hold off on the judgement, please? Many DCUMs have been in both positions. Yes, they have had DCs friends/teammates for playdates, then taken them to sports events afterwards, for months at a time. Also have been without transportation, and had to purchase expensive bus transportation and other. Not every parent has mit constant driving. Some also have health issues that prevent driving. A cab ride for a K student is something I would not do, but if it were a matter of losing my job, or using a cab, I might feel differently.
