It's not the end of the world. It's just a name.
I don't think anyone's saying it's the end of the world.
As previously stated--to each his own. If you want to use a mega-popular name, go for it. The point is there's a happy medium on the popularity scale between the names Sophia and Etheldred. I don't see anything wrong or snooty about trying to find it.

Hey! Sounds like that's what you should have been named! How can you call someone snooty for wanting a unique name and then say not to be judgmental? What's it to you if someone wants their kid's name to be different? And why does that equate to being snooty? I believe you should go to the stroller thread and weigh in there.

Well there you go. I have my future daughter's name picked out now: Berta. Guaranteed to be the only one!
I don't know. I was thinking of Matilda for my daughter but I've now met three of them! (But I'd spell it the French way, Mathilde.)

Yay. My son's name seems to be getting more popular, but was not mentioned a single time on this thread. Win!
I think the long compilation list someone came up (and someone else added Benjamin to) is very accurate. I know many children with those names.

I really don't get all of this fuss about popular names. If you like it, use it. There are some on this board that would equate a popular name with mediocrity or worse ("trailer trash"). Let's see... mom's generation's names... Sue, Lynn(ette), Pat/Patty/Patricia, Carol, Linda, Barbara, Janet, Valerie... I think all those are pretty safe for the moment!
A friend picked one of the names on your list, it's surprisingly cute on her baby and there aren't a ton of other little girls with her name. She gets lots of compliements on it
