July 4 1776 is the date the former colonies declared Independence. It wasn't the start of war.
Our forefathers declared our independence. England's consent didn't factor into it. That's what Independence means.

Maybe that’s obvious to other people, but it hadn’t occurred to me before that this event, and it’s lineup, could have been bungled so badly on purpose as a way to grab public funds for personal interest.
