There’s more sibling rivalry and fighting when they’re the same gender. I think the ideal is 2 kids: 1 boy, 1 girl. That way you have the experience of both

1. It’s true that teen girls and sometimes adult daughters sometimes clash with their mothers in a way that boys don’t. We did with a couple of ours. But it’s typically temporary so long as the mother is a reasonably decent parent. A girl grows up and realizes that at times she was a PITA and that her mother did her best.
2. We see way, way more of our daughters and our grandchildren than their husbands’ families do. The husbands all get along with their families just fine but adult men just don’t make the same effort to see their families that women do.
It’s because when women give birth they tend to cling to their mothers for advice not their mother in laws. I feel bad for boy moms. They won’t spend nearly as much time with their grandkids as girl moms

I’m part of a culture that values boys more, my spouse is from a culture that values girls more. I am thankful to only have boys for many reasons. They are more fun, rough and tumble, I am happy they don’t get caught up in clothes, make up, hair, neurotic comparisons, gossip, I don’t have to worry about their safety nearly as much. The list goes on.

I don’t bash boys. Why would you think I would? I love my boy, and his friends, and my daughter’s friends who are boys.

DP. What planet are you living on? There is no time in history when women have had more going for them than now.
I am a single mom, make 160k at a job I love, dress how I want, do (or not do) my hair as I wish, own a house, have significant savings, sending both my kids to college.
Tell me what other times in history when many women could do that. And it’s even better for my daughter because she is not growing up in a family where most of the resources and attention went to the boys. I have a son too. They are both great kids and going to do well.
It is true that girls and women growing up in rural/red areas have fewer options, but the boys and men in those places are affected as well.
I guess if you already think this world is anti-woman, you are going to see everything that way. If you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
PP who made the comment. I don’t disagree but objectively, women have to deal with a lot more than men, even in the best circumstances. I have a very complex relationship with my own mother. So I was stressed about having a girl. But, like I said, she is amazing and I love raising her (she’s a teen now). It all depends on the individuals.
