If you’re working, you should have your young kids in child care. And $18 is a steal per hour for a summer babysitter.

Stop being cheap and lazy.

Stop being a jerk. A lot of camps are 9:00-4:00. Some have aftercare but personally my kids hate staying that long.
The options are split up the drop off and pick up with your spouse or another family, take leave frequently, or get a summer sitter.

Yep, a lot of camps are 9-4. Some are 9-3. Those don’t work for our family because we need longer hours or available aftercare. So we found camps that have that.

Plenty of camps are longer, or offer aftercare options. If you need the extended care, you should look for them.

Yes, but....more people needing aftercare and beforecare and the like will increase the price due to demand. It makes it more stressful on a macro basis, for everyone. And because of the cost, there is more demand for lower cost camps which actually needles out lower income workers who had a traditional 9-5. On top of that, traffic is worse because of these policies, which means you need to build in even more time.

The kneejerk Fed hate is so short-sighted.

Also, I REALLLLLLY hate the carpool suggestions. A sedan with two carseats cant carpool. Imagine having to buy a SUV or Minivan just because you have to carpool because work-life balance from the B-class bros is non-existent.

We fit 3 car seats in our Honda fit back row.

Also most camp age kids dont need car seats. Maybe boosters. If you have babies they arent going to camp.

I have a Diono for my baby and a booster for my 8 year old. I cannot fit another car seat or booster in the middle and I wont drive a kid without proper safety equipment.
Im not removing my car seat- to go where?- for carpooling and then having to reinstall it. Carpooling isnt just the answer to everything.

Wtf are you to prattling on about? Camp age kids are in backless boosters, usually. If your kid is younger, he should be in daycare or with a nanny.

lol wtf are YOU prattling on about?! Your kids must be…hearty…!

No, kids 5-12 should be in a variety of car seats depending on their height, weight and fit. They should not be in backless boosters till 8-10.

This isn't accurate.

Same. I don’t understand why this is hard to figure out. It was not particularly easy, but we searched for a camp with our parameters, including location, cost, and available hours. One kid is going to a different camp for a week and it checked the location and cost boxes; one of us will have to leave work early every day for pickup, but it is only for one week.

Every family I know with working parents is doing this same thing.

This doesn’t work every day but I scheduled some doctor appointments so I could take sick leave and then pick the kids up.

I’m not being a jerk but clearly I struck a nerve. Many of us are in this same summer camp position.

OP needs to use one of the many suggestions already offered. Since folks are having processing issues, I’ll summarize them here:

-Rotate pickup and drop off (if you’re in a two parent household)
-Research other camps
-Hire a sitter
-Use leave
-Carpool with other families

And sorry, but if your kids “hate staying there long,” that’s something for you to troubleshoot. Plenty of parents have kids in before and after care for the school year too.

Many parents do not have the option of just picking up our kids whenever we want. We have to work around the confines of our work schedules.

Anonymous wrote:Feds have had it super easy for years.

I was shocked when SEC in DC told me when they do an an audit of a broker dealer in NYC they expect to be paid for travel time. So they grab Amtrak at start of work shift on Monday Morning and then not arrive at Broker Deal in NYC till around one pm.They still run out the door by 430pm. Then on Friday around 11:30am they run out door again to get back to DC as only travel on work time.

Then to add to the madness they would then get to work from home following week to "write" up findings.

So I am like so over ten days you do 4 days work? They go yep. And oh yea between exams we sometimes go to office or WFH. We also get 5 weeks vacation and sick time and ten federal holidays. So we only work 45 weeks a year and around 2/3rds of that not at a broker dealer doing any sort of work.

Back in the 1990s-2019 I would think my neighbor was unemployed with a schedule like that

When I was at a firm I billed my client for work travel. Time = money.

The OP says the kids are in camp. How is it you don't read the post before replying?

I am missing the part where the OP says the kids are in camp. I just see OP saying last year she used babysitters and leave. And then asks how to do it without camp.

But, hey, thanks for checking on my reading comprehension! Totally read the post - and nailed it! How'd you do?
