Our HS doesn’t start the Instagram webpage until April 1st. It’s much healthier. Kids can tell their friends or whatever- but the school page doesn’t go up early.

^ I’m guessing the above poster is referring to full ride merit scholarship interviews. My husband is a professor and he’s been conducting these interviews as a scholarship committee member at his LAC for the past 2 weeks. At his school, it’s for full tuition and full room & board, plus stipends for things like a computer, study abroad, etc. Very competitive process.

Will do. DD had her first-round interviews and now she’s just waiting to hear whether she’s moving on to the next round. I can’t help but wonder if some of these “merit-based” scholarships quietly take financial need into account, even though they say they don’t. We definitely don’t qualify for need-based aid at all.

I have to say, I’m really looking forward to being done with all this college talk.


Which schools do more than one round of interviews? ? My kid was accepted to a few Ivies RD in 2024 and only had one interview at each of them.

OP, I feel it too. One thing that helped my DC was applying to some rolling admissions schools and a variety of EA schools. He received decisions in November, December, and January. That has made waiting for March a bit easier.

Reread the reach RD entire apps now with a critical eye.

You’ll be able to truthfully tell which if any are actually compelling pretty easily.

The best way to survive this process is to do three things:
1. Heavy drinking
2. Gummies
3. Apply to colleges that not everyone else in your school and area cares about

DP. Why be nasty? It is absolutely possible to be happy for those who got in but still feel stress from the uncertainty of not knowing where you will be, literally, in less than six months. This is the empathy.

Waiting on a bunch of deferrals and waitlisted at his #1. He has some good options with merit and honors from EA, so we are proceeding as if those are really going to be the pool from which he chooses. Going to visit three of them in the coming weeks.

We’re waiting on nine RD schools. One is so unrealistic it’s really eight. Of those I’d say maybe half would be more appealing than their best EA offer. None of those have an acceptance rate higher than 5%. Even if 1/2 of applicants to those schools are unqualified, the odds remain slim.

So yeah. I think we’re about to buy the sweatshirt lol

From my student’s list of 9 schools (mostly liberal arts colleges), only 3 offered EA and two of those resulted in deferrals. So, yes, many of us are in the long game and waiting, waiting, waiting…
