? Opposite effect. Coming from high performing schools like the Ws makes it harder for college admissions.
colleges will look at your kid compared to their peers in the same HS. If 90% of Wootton families are moving to Crown, not much will have changed, other than maybe since Crown will have a higher FARMs rate, your high stats kid will stand out more.
Go read the UMD acceptance thread. Lots of high stats kids from W schools get rejected at UMD. If that kid went to a school with a higher FARMs rate, they'd probably have an easier time getting into UMD.
Colleges will only take so many kids from one high school and major. Some of us know this and avoided the w schools as college is way more important than hs. No one cares where you go to hs except parents.
It’s actually harder in many states to get into your local top state university as a state resident. The university wants a more diverse student body, along with that sweet out of state tuition and international full tuition kids. In state tuition is a discount off list price that must be carefully rationed.
Correct, which is why it's harder for high stats kids from W schools to get into UMD than if that same kid went to a non W school.

Sucks to be reminded that being Upper Middle Class means you share some structural conditions with the Middle Class and not the 1%ers of McMansion Potomac. A tragedy.

And you know this will never happen. Wootton goes to Crown and then the Wootton building will be used for other purposes.
I hope it is used to house the Special needs kids - Imagine having a school for the special needs kids instead of these programs in every school. Dedicated teachers, central location.
They're going to build low income housing there. I guarantee it. The county council has been salivating over the idea of doing this to a nice neighborhood for several years.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Wooton as a holding school for Damascus is horrific

32 minutes at top speed. In rush hour it'll be more like 90.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Wooton as a holding school for Damascus is horrific
Totally agree. Damascus HS is 28 minutes from Crown and 32 from Wootton. Everyone knows losing 4 minutes of sleep per night on average for 2 years is highly detrimental to long term health and academic success.

The high school plan splits off Cold Spring but from everything I am hearing Cold Spring doesn't actually care. They are at Hoover and Churchill now, shorter commute and great schools.
Other than that, the Wootton cluster remains together and adds some new students.
The Wootton community within walking distance is so mad they are planning to tie this whole thing up in litigation for the foreseeable future, hopefully to draw it out long enough to have a new board and no vote. Great use of our tax dollars.
Yes it seems that they decided to make this plan in order to make elementary school boundaries contiguous but I agree this is not a good idea. I would say both Stone Mill and Travilah should be sent to Hoover and just keep Cold Spring at Cabin John even if it makes the boundaries non-contiguous. Hoover is closer than Cabin John for both Stone Mill and Travilah and at that distance (over 15 min) the slightly closer school makes a difference.
Really? Go tell this crap to someone who lives elsewhere. Both Stone mill and Travilah are 3 to 4 miles from Ridgeview and 7 miles from Hoover
Move them both to QO and move other schools to Hoover.
You can calm down I’m not an anti Wootton moving to Crown person I’m just stating what makes sense for the Middle Schools. I agree that geographically DuFief should go to QO, but that school is going to continue being close to full capacity (96%) despite both Brown Station and Fields Road being moved out. There’s no space for DuFief at QO without knocking more schools from QO towards Northwest…which would then go over capacity.
