Just search "best public universities in USA" and you'll find UVA.

Ivy is an athletic league.

There are no public “Ivies.” There are no little “Ivies.” Use of these terms is a symptom of insecurity.

Louder for the twits in the back. People are laughing behind their backs when they hear them refer to their kids' school as "Public Ivies, Little Ivies," etc.

Public Ivy has been a term used by college counselors since 1985. See Wikipedia. Get a grip and stop heckling ; you look like idiots.

+1. While I wouldn’t go around just saying “my kid goes to a public Ivy,” people who mock the term sound ignorant. It’s been common in the college world for decades.

And it’s been ridiculed the entire time. [b]

I personally love when people capitalize it like it’s a real thing.
. Only by you. No one else cares. It’s been a term in use since 1985 abd has its own wiki page. Go find some other aspect of UzvA to try and tear down. Sorry you are envious.

Anonymous wrote:I live in DC and I see VA posters talk about these schools as if they're ivies. Why??? I understand that UVA has a certain mystique as it's VA's only "elite"-approaching school, but, frankly, UVA isn't even Georgetown, nevermind Stanford or Yale.

William and Mary is unique because of its size and also has some level of mystique but, again, I don't understand the commotion. It's essentially a public Wake Forest. Why?

Same story with VT. Even less of a reason to get into a twist because it's just like every other large public school in the nation. It has nice architecture, sure, but...so what?!

Can anyone enlighten me?

try to get in first before asking!

No, it actually hasn’t, which is why different people have updated the list periodically since.

But whether you agree with the concept or not (and I have no doubt the deeply insecure status chasers don’t), making statements that make clear you’ve never heard of it are a sign of ignorance. I wouldn’t advertise that.

It's great to know that JMU boosters think the only thing their school has going for it is football.

Ah - I see dcum’s notorious “nutter” lady has entered the conversation.

She is the only one here who uses this word, which is weirdly British (how odd that now she’s pontificating on exclusively American colleges and universities). Her opinions are universally kinda crazy and extreme across many topics on DCUM. What a nut-job!

It’s a truth universally acknowledged, that DCUM UVA boosters are nutters.

Does not matter that it started as a sports league amongst select schools. People don't see it that way anymore except you.
Ivy is now a brand that attracts top students.

Ah, but only the chronically insecure view other non-Ivy League schools as public Ivies and little Ivies. Stop a random person at Wegmans and ask them to name a little Ivy. Let me know what they say. Ivies are very well defined. Pseudo-Ivies are not even remotely the same.

Yeah; OK. Tell yourself whatever you need to in order to cope.

I went to an actual Ivy so I think I'll be fine, thank you. I tried to save you from looking ridiculous but some people can't be helped. Carry on. I'll keep snickering as will others who are not insecure.

It seems that you are the insecure one.
