Says the misogynist. A Buffalo Bill played through a playoff game recently that he tore his ACL during. He was called heroic.
Eh, not really. You are not familiar how this works - every single NFL player is dealing with some sort of ailment at the end of the year. No one is calling him a hero (other than the most ridiculous fan), it's just what happens and the teams love saying this after the season when they lost to provide cover.
Except that I am. He was healthy prior to the injury. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47602037/bills-tyrell-shavers-played-torn-acl-2nd-half-vs-jaguars

I don't think it's realistic to assume she made this decision without serious pressure from big name sponsors who had spent money making a bunch of ads heavily featuring Vonn and didn't want to have to run them during an olympics where she wasn't even competing.

She had surgery for a fractured leg and is out of surgery now.

So stupid. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Her hubris got in the way of common sense.
Yeah, that never happened before. Veteran Olympian qualifying and being allowed to compete. Shocking.
Oh yes, she qualified alright.....probably qualified for disability after this accident.
Idiots like you are enablers that allows disasters like this to happen. She is so past her prime and has zero knees.
Played a stupid game and won the stupid prize. Americans get to enjoy watching her on TV screaming in agony. So cool she "qualified".

Most of the Olympic downhill skiers have zero knees left. Also her accident was unrelated to her knee. She hooked a gate with her shoulder.
This is an impossible assertion to make. Vonn approached aspects of the training run differently due to her knee. We have no idea what impact her knee might have had on how she approached her starter the way she went around that gate. Anyone who has ever "played injured" knows that impacts you on ever level. Yes, elite athletes learn to play through it, but the idea that it was unrelated is very unlikely.
Also, depending on the extent of her injuries, there's a question of whether the existing injury may have resulted in a worse outcome due to how she landed when she fell.
Lindsey had the third fastest time on the training run. And they’ve all torn an ACL or MCL, including Breezy who’s torn them both multiple times. Downhill is dangerous.
I don't know what you think this proves. Racers don't go all out on training runs, it's intended to learn the course and see current conditions, not a qualifier.
And yes, lots of skiers have torn an ACL or MCL. But how many were racing *on* a torn ACL? Especially given that Vonn's other knee has already been fully reconstructed, which heightens the risk.
The point is that you absolutely cannot claim that her injury was totally unrelated to her crash. That's not how human bodies work. Every injury takes a toll and having a torn ACL will impact how you ski. Obviously.
I’m not making it; ski experts are saying it was a technical crash caused by hitting the gate and even her 20 year old self couldn’t have saved it. Also, Breezy had the fastest time on both the training run and the Olympic run, so there’s a demonstrable correlation between the two. Lindsey was solid on her training run. And it is not uncommon for World Cup skiers to finish a season on a torn ACL.
How can anyone know if pain or concern about her injuries knee impacted how she approached the gate though? Yes, hitting the gate is what caused her to fall. Why did she hit the gate? 13 second into a run on a course she is very familiar with and has done many times? Vonn is the most experienced skier out on that course. Why'd she hit the gate?
I'm not saying she her injured knee definitely caused the crash. I'm saying it ridiculous to assert that it cannot possibly have had anything to do with it. You don't know. Vonn might not even know. When your body is injured, sometimes you respond differently than you would if you were healthy. It is of course possible that her torn ACL impacted how she came out of the starting gate, how she approached the beginning of the run, and how she went around that gate. It may also have impacted how the crash impacted her body when she fell.
The truth is you don't know, and her injury absolutely could have contributed to her crash or to the severity of the injury.
