Because Janeese would be a hilariously bad mayor? She is completely unqualified.

Specifically, how?

She's educated, experienced, and actually gives a crap.

Experienced doing what exactly?

+1 I would like to know her accomplishments as a ward 4 council member.

Her signature issue is replacing the police with "violence interrupters," which is possibly the sleaziest program in the entire government. First there was the bribery scandal, now a couple "'violence interrupters" have themselves been arrested for murder.

1. Violence interrupters worked wonders in Baltimore.

2. Thus, the problem is not the idea, but the implementation (see also housing vouchers).

3. The implementation is the responsibility of the mayor's office, not individual council members.

4. Go clutch at another straw.

Please list her accomplishments.

Kenyan is the more moderate candidate. Janeese is for those who think Bernie Sanders is way too conservative.

I read Kenyan's policy positions and they are almost identical to Janeese's. How is he moderate?

I mean, call him up. I'm not sure we're ready for a white mayor at this point, but we'll see I guess?

I always find it amazing that so many people think Randy Clarke is would win a race for mayor. There is a 0.0 chance of a white male who has lived in this city for like three years getting elected. And his name recognition outside of the Ward 1 and Ward 6 white privilege bubbles is nil, except as the guy who totally ruined the Metrobus system.

So many of you need to step away from GGWash and the washingtondc subreddit.

This, 100%. I like the guy, but he has no chance with the voting electorate in DC.

I don't think anyone doubts that. But I do think a lot of people wish someone new would run. And especially after the city's abysmal response to the snowstorm, it would be great if we could get a technocrat type who would just focus on making the government actually work. We have extremely high taxes and a government that struggles to do even the basics. I don't know much about Duffie, but I don't think JLG could successfully organize a two car parade. She's about the last person I'd expect to make the government work better.

It is really bad, unlike MPD who never has scandals from any of their members.

/sarcasm

Janeese wants to take tax dollars from the police department and give it to her rando friends so they can pretend to be cops, despite them not having any qualifications whatsoever. What could possibly go wrong?

The violence interrupter program should be shut down. It is a complete scam. Per the Washington Post:

"The D.C. government awarded Life Deeds $3.6 million in violence prevention grants over the course of 15 months from October 2023 through December 2024. The group used more than $411,000 of that money to hire businesses owned by or linked to its own employees or their family members, according to a Post review of thousands of pages of financial records for Life Deeds.

Using taxpayer funds, Life Deeds held events or activities — promoted as opportunities for trust building, community bonding and education — that included lavish dinners, go-karting trips to New Jersey and an alcohol-filled pool party where Life Deeds hired its employees’ companies to provide decorations, refreshments and DJ services, records show."

I think how you choose either should be tied to what matters most—your values, and which candidate’s values are compatible with yours.

I find that Janeese randomly lies about things that are easily fact checked and don't make sense to lie about, and I can't even always tell why. Like when we lost the public pool at Walter Reed, her office never announced that it wasn't happening. A neighbor reading the mayor's budget noticed there was no funding for it and reached out to JLG's office to ask what happened and they said she didn't know but would "look into it". Then her office eventually responded that the site was unworkable due to underground structures and we weren't getting a pool, but she never announced it in her weekly email roundups. But the kicker is . . . JLG is the Chair of the committee of facilities. If she "didn't know" that the site report that was produced long before the budget said that the pool was unworkable, then she's not doing her job at all. She absolutely knew, but didn't want to report bad news so she just sat on it and then lied about it.

Likewise she just sent out a mailer saying she's a "lifelong DC resident," but she isn't. She's a DC native but lived and worked in Philadelphia, that's where she was a prosecutor. And as a lawyer she certainly knows the difference, there's no reason to say "lifelong resident" instead of "DC native" -- why intentionally lie when people don't care about that kind of distinction?

During Covid there were excess federal Covid funds that were used as bonuses for Pre-K teachers, and then when those excess funds didn't exist anymore she made a big stink about how the budget was being balanced on the back of ECE workers because they weren't getting paid as much in the new budget, but . . . it was a one-time discretionary bonus! The funds were never built into the budget as a raise or salary, so not getting another bonus from a pool of funds that no longer existed is not highway robbery. That one is just blatant exaggeration/dishonest framing rather than a straight-out lie, but I think it fits the pattern of her not being scrupulous with her word. I'm not sure if any other councilmembers are better, but as my councilmember I find her untrustworthy.

This is the oddest list of complaints I have read here to date. How dare she live in Philly for a few years. She's an outsider now!

The point isn't that she lived in Philly. It's that she lies about things when there's no reason to do so. I understand that the popular position these days is "they're all liars" but it's not a great sign when someone tells unnecessary, easily fact-checked lies. Seems to be habitual rather than a one-off that happens when someone is caught flatfooted in a tight place. A habitual liar is not someone I will personally choose to vote for, but this is the town that can't shake Trayon Martin so here we are.

That isn't even a lie. You're being overly literal and weird.

It literally is a lie, and she is a trained lawyer who knows what words mean. Now if what you mean is "there's not a big difference between being a DC native and a lifelong resident," then welcome to the point I've been making all along: it's a lie for no discenrable reason. Lying for no reason is weird and something I notice she does repeatedly.

It's really hard to take you seriously. Are you actually a stack of gophers in a trenchcoat? Fess up

Well your contribution to the thread started with poor reading comprehension and has devolved into an attempt at deflection with what you seem to think is humor, so rest easy that your opinion has been filed where it belongs.
