Really just depends how MCPS handles it. Usually not that well, last year 7 inches of snow was able to close school for three days with a delay the next I believe.
Yeah that's why I think if we really do get a foot or more there's a chance of being off all week ala Snowmaggedon.

This seems like a reasonable timeline. Though if there's a total closure on Thursday, then that's a miserable failure on the part of the county and MCPS. Delays on both Thursday and Friday are understandable, but Monday through Wednesday should be plenty of time to clear everything.
MCPS has zero control of what MOCO plows.
Schools will be closed for a week and they should be.
The temps are going to be too low for anything to melt there will be tons of ice.
If you people can not take care of your own kids stop having them.

It's a snowstorm. Grow up and clear that shit up in 72 hours. It's not like we're asking for a 24 hour turnaround. 72 hours of cleanup should be more than sufficient. No wonder our government and schools are crap, people like you allow them to get away with low expectations.
+1 last year MCPS stayed closed well after all the roads were cleared. It was fun snow days for them! Nevermind everyone else is going to work normally except parents of young children who are scrambling because those stupid lazy f&cks wouldn't even let child care open.

You know sometimes the state grants a waiver.
The state will only grant a waiver after MCPS shows it attempted to use its make-up days. Last year's waiver request was DENIED because we tried to get days waived without using the make-up days.

Early morning simulations now suggest rainfall near the end of this storm on Sunday evening. The middle troposphere will become warm enough to make every precipitation particle liquid by then. So hopefully that indicates some washout but the surface is still sub-zero and will remain fairly cold after this snow storm. Refreezing is even more dangerous and harder to clear out.

It's ridiculous that they only build in one day. They should build in more, and then just release early if not used.
Why not have the days? We used to have more than 181 days.
Schools being open on a particular day costs money. Transportation, utilities, salaries. I agree that 1 snow day is ridiculous and is basically never enough, even in years when we get very little actual winter weather. Something always happens. But it's also not as simple as just adding more days on. The funds saved by removing those days have probably already been repurposed to keep something else afloat.
Teachers don’t get paid when snow days are made up so that’s not a concern budget wise.
Right, but transportation, utilities, and hourly workers (e.g. anybody who's an SEIU employee or contractor) still cost.
