Obviously not for measles but they should be getting their first round of vaccines.

Also following the reasoning here you and yours should never ever leave the house.

such a dumb question
too young for almost all vaccines

I see your point about the diva patients, but lets not pretend mistakes around dosage and contraindicated medications never happen

Absolutely medical errors are responsible for a huge amount of deaths. No one‘s catching an error by trying to interpret “the ingredient list”” on a bag of saline though. And please don’t undervalue your role as a CNA. Healthcare is a team sport and everyone matters. Thanks for showing up and doing what you do.

YASSS!

This is so relevant to the OP dealing with MAHA shitheads in her family. Thank you for your service, ma’am. Thank you, you are indeed lowly yet so worthy.

Posters like the one above who refer to vaccines as “unknown garbage” are also the patients who are rudest to the nurses, will ask me for a blanket as I’m literally running to a coding patient, and complain about “the wait” while they’re sitting in the waiting room of a level 1 trauma center for their chief complaint of cold symptoms. Bonus points if they’ve already visited urgent care and have had negative Covid/flu swabs/CXR and want a “second opinion” (ie antibiotics for their viral syndrome). I once had the husband of an anti-science patient demand to see “the ingredient list” on a bag of normal saline. I told him he could stay or leave, his choice, and Google whatever he wanted. But I wasn’t brining him bags of IV fluids to review for his “own research”. These folks don’t believe in science and aren’t bright enough to understand it anyway. In the ER we ignore their hot takes and keep it moving. My friends in Peds don’t have that luxury. God bless the AAP for suing the feds.

You don't have time to show a patient what is in their medicine but you have time to post on DCUM? What ER are you at doc?

Saline is salt and water. It's not medicine. Hope that helps.

There are various concentrations prescribed. Most IVs are 0.9% but higher concentrations are prescribed for specific reasons - most notable being clearing of the airways and lungs. Not totally bizarre that a patient would want to know what they are getting.

1. We don’t “prescribe” normal saline. We order it.
2. “Most IVFs” are not 0.9%. All NS is 0.9%, by definition. NS is an IVF. All IV fluids are not NS. They are not interchangeable.
3. No idea what you’re talking about with “higher concentrations” being used for “clearing of the airways and lungs“. That makes no sense, and does not even approach the indication for hypertonic saline.
4. Just stop. I realize that the TikTokification of the world has made people like you believe that everyone’s knowledge and opinion is equal, but it isn’t. You can have your own opinion about anything you want. But we see 180,000 people annually in my ER. Let that sink in for a minute. These are middle-aged women vomiting from chemo, young men with insulin dependent diabetes in DKA, and people having all manner of strokes, MIs, and trauma. No one is going to slow down the system for you so that you can gum it up while you “do your own research“ on our time. Like I told the guy who was harassing my nurses to bring him bags of fluid to inspect, google whatever you want, be my guest. And if you want to seek your care elsewhere, do everyone a favor and do that too. But you’re not keeping me from seeing the septic little lady in the next room because you need to prove a point.

Also if you plan on sending your kids to public school they will probably be around unvaccinated children unless you live in CA.

Or you know a public school in NYC.

Trash.
