emory was quoted in the ny times article about early decision. it admits the most of its freshman class early decision than virtually any other college. of course that skews the acceptance rate. no one thinks emory is a better school than nyu. it has that same extra junior college campus out in the rural part of georgia.

70% of Emory students submit test scores vs 25% of NYU. Also NYU isnt even T30 so...

Why would they pick Syracuse instead of Fordham? And picking caltech is nonsense. Caltech has a total enrollment of like 2k. It’s a technical school

The university's internal selection of 'peer' schools isn't intended for the purpose you seem to be using it for. It's used for internal uses like making comparisons for resource allocation, benchmarking salaries, etc. A lot of times, universities select aspirational schools because of what they're trying to achieve internally. A lot of times, they select schools in similar types of cities (because this makes a difference for salary allocation). For example, few would place George Washington and Georgetown as true 'peers' but last I checked, GW listed Georgetown. Because it is an aspirational school in the same market. And they compete in some of the graduate programs.
