I think Mindy was always kinda meant but as a heavier person tried to hide it and it came more off as a desperate desire to be liked. She's dropped a lot of that veneer and it is pretty off putting. I also hate that she will shill for seemingly ANYTHING on Istagram ("these are the best Colon Blow and hemmerroide feleief products I have tried!"), it seems so low rent and beneath someone who has a successful career not exclusively based on being an influencer. Ugh all around.

Agree with this. Mindy always thought she was better than other people, but getting thin made her feel like she could express it without having anyone throw "but you're not thin" back at her.

Whereas I don't get the sense Amy thinks she's better than anyone. If anything, she has low self-esteem that she has addressed via humor and self-deprecating comedy over the years. She just wants to be thin for its own sake, because she thinks it would make her feel good and garner positive attention. It's not about proving she's superior, I think at this point it's a lot more about fitting into Hollywood and feeling like she's meeting beauty expectations.

To be fair, move the celebrity careers peak and then have some sort of decline, especially in entertainment. Amy has achieved unprecedented success with her stand-up specials, tours, couple bestseller books, a couple of series that have done well, and several successful movies.

I am sure she will stay active in comedy, but yeah, this kind of peak is not sustainable for anyone.

She seems way too pressed to be skinny and thought of as a sexy celeb…but that’s simply not her role. She’s meant to be the comic who gives zero F’s about such things, yet here she is starving herself and ingesting chemicals to look skinny.

I think she’s destroyed her career and reputation as a relatable person who wasn’t like the other Hollywood jerks.

When people intentionally base their careers around their weight being part of the familiar character that people recognize, absolutely, it feels like 50/50 whether a major physical transformation will work. Al Roker still doesn’t totally feel the same to me. Kelly Osbourne looks unrecognizable.

Rebel Wilson based ALL her characters on being heavier.

I’m not sure how it would work to have a 110lb Amy Schumer, or lower.

At some point there’s that moment like that one Biggest Loser contestant who came out looking like she was going to die and everyone was so shocked people couldn’t even remember to clap and cheer even when prompted to. There were just gasps.

I just don't find her funny now. She was amusing as the messed up party girl in Trainwreck. I have no desire to hear mom jokes. To me her situation is like so many singers who blow all their good material on ths first record. She was good for a few years and that has passed, She's not a great actress. Her best bought is a mom friendly talk show where she can tell mildly amusing stories about the kids, sort of like Jenna on Today.

I feel like this was written by someone who has never actually watched Schumer's stand up (and potentially not Nikki Glaser's either).

Amy does sometimes make crude jokes about sex but her humor is much more biting and more about emotions than just about the shock of her referring to crude sexual situations. In particular, Amy's last two specials have focused on pregnancy, childbirth, relationships generally, marriage to someone on the spectrum, the pandemic, and getting older. Sex is still part of it but it's not the focus at all. I think the key to her success as a standup is entirely in how relatable and honest she is.

Glaser is much more of a "sex shock" type comedian and she is not really to my taste. I think Nikki Glaser is most similar to Iliza Schlesinger, but Schlesinger's comedy is more insightful to me.

Another issue with Glaser is that her life has stayed pretty static over her career and it makes her material seem pretty stale. She moved back to her hometown at some point and that resulted in some better jokes but even that's gotten old now. Whereas both Schumer and Schlesinger have evolved a bit more as people and their comedy has evolved with it.

All three of these women are in their early to mid 40s (as am I) and I feel like Schumer and Schlesinger have kind of grown up with me, whereas when I see Glaser's standup these days it feels very stuck in the same place it was 20 years ago. There's been no evolution.

Her stand up comedy isn't really my thing, but she seems like a nice person.

I'm also sad about it, in part because she actually seems like a pretty down to earth person and their relationship seemed relatable and realistic to me (I am also married to someone on the spectrum and have specifically struggled with that tendency for him to have no response when I am in need of support). And the fact that their kid is early elementary age and likely also on the spectrum makes me sad in general. But at least it seems like they are totally amicable and will be co-parenting and working it out. They have plenty of money, that should help.

It at least seems less dysfunctional and resentment-laden than when Ali Wong got divorced. Wishing her a truly amicable situation where they both move forward in positive ways.
