The line has been blurred where masculinity crosses the line into toxic, so that normal behavior is called toxic. It starts early on in elementary school. Mustn't let the boys get too rowdy on the playground!


I get it but getting too “rowdy” is a liability for the school if someone gets hurt

I've known SO many men whose mothers coddle them and protect them from the consequences of their actions, even in adulthood. One 40 year old man I knew had his mother pay for everything - his rent, food, etc - because he was too "depressed" to work! I've seen moms pay for bail and attorneys when their adult sons got DUIs, side with their sons when they beat their own wives and children.....my former MIL used to tell my xH that I was a bad wife because I didn't "take care of him" by cooking and cleaning for him every night (even though I worked full time and paid 70% of our bills!).

Too many moms don't want their sons to be MEN, they want them to be babies. And too many fathers don't stand up and teach their sons to be men, they don't want to be bothered.

DP I don’t think it is wrong to look at how people parent and if certain beliefs about parenting don’t work anymore. Not just the moms but also the dads. These kids don’t just show up out of thin air.

I worked in a restaurant where a mother brought her son, a 20-something culinary school graduate, in on his first day, walked into the kitchen uninvited with him, introducing him to everyone and explaining that he was a little shy, but very sweet. She also called him in sick on his 2nd day. There was no 3rd day.

I agree with this, but I also disagree with this. My boys are doing fine, as are their friends. But their cohort is small. At school, girls are in charge of everything. Not some things, not the majority, but everything.


Are these elected positions? In my experience girls are more willing to participate in extracurriculars that don’t revolve around sports.

I agree with this, but I also disagree with this. My boys are doing fine, as are their friends. But their cohort is small. At school, girls are in charge of everything. Not some things, not the majority, but everything.

2020 was a moment in time. I don't think any professor would do that today. But that dynamic definitely made an impression on every white boy under 20. And they generally revolted from progressives as a result.


It didn't happen in 2020 either.


I have two boys. They heard and experienced that kind of thing all the time around 2020. That was a very toxic time and it formed a lot of opinions.

I've got boys and it's a double-edged sword. There is a lot of hate and sexism toward boys in schools (and the same for girls too). But, we're not asking a lot of boys right now, and that goes for MAGA. Why isn't Trump telling boys to learn math, to seek equality, to "win" without cheating? To be partners with women, not enemies upholding the patriarchy? MAGA is telling boys to not go to college and that the "patriarchy is nature" and Nick Fuentes is mad that he can't get a date?!?!

I've even heard Dem men on DCUM say they vote Democratic, but don't see themselves in the Democrat party, which is mystifying because we had a white male president and the majority of Dem governors are white men. I also see women forcing "girl power," which doesn't leave a lot of room for boys (who definitely notice this in elementary school) who will have to someday be equal partners.

Basically no group is thriving. We have to think about what we want for the future.
