OP is asking for dress advice on mommy board where most of the posters are decades older than her. So I am not sure about her fashion sense either.

As a practical matter, I don’t think I would have spent $250 for a dress for a one night event when I was in my 20s and 30s. I would have spent a lot less, and I tend to think dresses for younger women cost less because they on average for less to spend.

I posted earlier in this thread; I am in my 30s and $250 for a dress is about right imo. Any cheaper and it's going to be one of those flammable looking things better suited for a college formal. My sister is getting married in a few months and my dress was about $300. And it's just a basic lined chiffon gown.

And depending on the social dynamics, I would avoid black, white, silver, and whatever color the bridesmaids are wearing if there are catty older women relatives in play.

All the long dresses in silk and poly are terrible. Unless op is 5 10 and with a concave stomach, these dresses look terrible. You want a fixed waist, show a bit of boob but not too much, and length just above knee, just below knee or midi.

And wearing a revenge dress is totally a legit goal. I’ve been very happily married 25 years and guarantee that if I was going to an event where I thought I’d see my crappy college boyfriend who treated me like crap, not only would I want to “revenge dress” him, my DH would probably be all in on my behalf, making sure he looked awesome too. That’s true love!

I wear mostly Ann Taylor and even I know that is the ugliest wedding guest dress ever made.
