Isn't that the point of this thread? There's a lot of speculation, in Britain and in the US, that Kate and William are actually pretty conservative and like Trump. They certainly seemed happy to talk to him during his visit, and certainly that's part of their job description, but also you can't fake the pictures that came out of the multiple engagements.

Their job is to represent the UK, and the UK needs a break from tariffs. They'd better put on a pony show. I think the only one, while dressed horribly, who showed her true emotions about the whole thing was Melania. It was a boring visit, as boring as it gets. She knows they dislike her and her husband, but that they had to be pleasant. She knows they look down on her, so she put on a fake smile on.

My SIL is a liberal from Colorado, and she had a slumber party when Kate got married, and she is nothing like Kate at all, but I think she likes her.
I am from central Europe, and I can't say I care one way or the other for William or Kate. I think Charles and Camilla are horrible. I loved Princess Diana; I am that generation. Everyone in my generation and even my parents' generation in Europe loved Diana and admired the Queen, despite knowing that horrible things had occurred during her reign.
I find that these days have changed, and monarchies are outdated, more like archaic, dying dinosaurs.
Having said that, I do like a lovely dress or a sweather from M. McLaughlin, but that is because Iam getting old and outdated myself.

It's time to stop playing the cancer card. Also, all three of her kids are in school all day.

She could do some work. If she wants to live the life of a wealthy British aristocrat, then fine. But then stop taking the Sovereign Grant and duchy money from the British people. The royal family has plenty of private property and assets and she'll be fine.

If Kate and William don't want to do any actual work, then they can become like other European "bicycle monarchies." Why do the Waleses, who do less than half the engagements of King Charles, who is still undergoing treatment for cancer, need so many homes and so many vacations? A bicycle monarchy doesn't mean the Waleses move to council estates, because most European monarchies are still very, very, privileged, but it does mean they're less of a drain on the taxpayer. Except those other European monarchs actually do work they bicycle to, but that's a quibble.

William's "small r" royalty is BS, because he wants that £23m/year in duchy income and the Sovereign Grant, but doing less work. Like having staff tweet for VJ Day a few weeks ago, which was a disgrace. A bicycle monarchy seems commensurate with how Kate and William view their own roles.
