Exactly! Idk why the assumption is young=attractive. There’s lots of fugly young people.

In general, if someone is attractive when they’re young, they’ll continue to be. Rare is the person who “becomes” attractive later in life.

I know a woman who is more attractive relative to her peers in her forties than she was as a teen/early twenties, mostly due to some corrective plastic surgery plus just having better style, hair, and makeup as an adult. Some of the more attractive girls from my high school look terrible now because they have put on too much weight.

I've seen both. Some young people really lack confidence and style and just make themselves look ugly. THen they mature, figure out what works for them, take care of themselves better and they look much better as a result.

I don’t think most women think about it much, with the notable exception of the poster who always parks themselves in any thread remotely related to aging in order to post over and over how badly white women age

You are out of touch with the majority of women if you think that most of us don't think about this topic often. 15 years ago when we still read magazines, most of the covers of women's mags were about anti aging tips and tricks. Now it is just pushed to us on social media because print is dead, but we are inundated with this sort of content because most women are very concerned with their skin and visible aging. So much so that there is now a niche group of pro aging naturally influencers who are specifically creating content about not dyeing their grays and refusing injectables and procedures to age naturally because of the overwhelming norm to be obsessed with it.

DP but I am 45 and I would not say I think about this a lot. Not because I look young for my age but because I'm okay looking my age. In work settings, looking my age is finally an asset for me because people actually listen to me and assume I know what I'm talking about. And in social settings, looking my age means most men leave me alone and I only engage with people who think a middle aged woman is a worthwhile person to talk to, which is remarkably peaceful compared to being a woman in your 20s or early 30s when there are often a lot of people trying to engage with you no matter how you try to communicate that you want to be left alone (headphones, books, no eye contact, etc.). The invisibility of middle age is sometimes annoying but mostly I like the anonymity and appreciate that I'm no longer primarily viewed as a sexual object by a significant portion of the population.

Same. I had a baby face and always looked at least 5 years younger than my age until I was about 38 or 39. I looked like I was 13 as a college freshman, looked like a high school kid in grad school, looked like a college kid in my late 20s, etc. It was never a good thing until my 30s when I consistently looked mid-to-late 20s. But then I had kids and approached 40s and my face caught up with my age. Now I'm 45 and I can either look my age but decent (when well rested, wearing makeup, wearing bright colors, have touched up my grays) or I can look like someone's grandma (when the grays come in, I'm wearing glasses and no makeup, I'm wearing black or gray). Like it takes a ton of effort just to look mid-40s. Whereas 10 years ago I could go makeup free and wear sweats and hair in a ponytail and I'd still look really young.

Most women my age (48) with filler and botox look like (1) drag queens/men and (2) old. The deep plane work that the Hollywood stars are getting does not cost $1000 at the medspa.

And, unfortunately most plastic surgery just makes both women and men look more like the other sex and usually they still look their age.

I look a little younger than I am basically because I have kind of a round face, no gray hair, and I am fairly fit and have some style (I don't mean that I wear trendy millennial clothes). I will continue to avoid injections and will just look however I look ...

I think that what folks are forgetting is that people also often look *older* than their age. So, yes, there can be a noticeable difference between someone who looks 5 yr younger than 40 (e.g. great skin, fit) and someone who looks 5 years older (e.g. out of shape, prematurely gray). I don't think folks are necessarily lying when they say the first 40 year old looks "so much younger than her age"... they don't mean she looks 25 but simply that she is much more youthful, attractive, fit than other 40 yr olds...

Troof!

Not really. My black and Asian friends all have really bad melasma and skin discoloration and can’t use lasers. Their grays show more. They actually look worse. Sorry.

Your stupid anecdote doesn’t count

I hate to break it to you, but this is all anecdotal. So, it does indeed. Sorry! Also, my south Asian friends look far older than their age. Is this a fun game? Not really, but you wanted to play.

It sounds like maybe people are very unattractive where you live? Weird!

I live in DC and regularly meet black people who I think are a certain age, and then I learned (because I learn their kids ages, or when they went to school or something) that they are literally 15-20 years older than I thought.
