I think the issue is that the kids that have gone to Elon (and Syracuse and Furman), now find going to state schools more desirable. They pick them for two reasons; one they are less expensive and two they have the rah rah sports.

These kids are not kids with top stats but kinds in the middle 40 percent. It seems as if most of parents on here have top stat kids.

I don’t find any of this particularly surprising, of course mid-level privates and below are going to the ones hurt most. There’s been such a shake-up in our country and the downturn in applicant numbers is coming. The transfer postcards have been around at lots of schools, given their need to fill seats, can’t really blame them for targeting people that already showed an interest. None of this means the school is any less great than the day before, much like the US news change in ratings. The ones that weather the storm best will be innovative.

My kid got one of those from several schools. In what sense do you think it is unethical?


Name the schools. Poaching students is bottom tier desperation.


DP mine got the, from St. Olaf and Wooster. Guaranteed transfer admission after first or second year. Guaranteed merit, with the amount they were offered as freshman admits being the minimum.


My kid received an email from Wooster in April letting him know they were offering a late application opportunity (for free) and would return a decision in 7 days.

Clearly there is a tier of schools struggling filling their classes.

My kid got transfer invitations from Fordham, Stetson (not surprising) and ASU (also not surprising). I think also one from Villanova. All schools they had applied to, gotten on and rejected the year before.

Ridiculous. There are hundreds of less-selective in state schools, all of which have better results than trying to get a job without a Bachelors degree. Ridiculous. There are hundreds of less-selective in state schools, all of which have better results than trying to get a job without a Bachelors degree. I know wildly successful people who went to University of Oregon, Temple, University of Albany, University of South Carolina...just a random sampling of people I personally know.

DP. Mine got postcard from St. Olaf and Wooster last year. Guaranteed admission as a transfer after first or second year. Merit aid guaranteed in at least the amount the were offered for fresh,an admission.

Lot of other mid/lower tier privates are going to suffer the same fate. Syracuse already is, American U, Seton Hall. There seems to be a trend of the more selective schools thriving with increased applicants and the less selective ones seeing a fall.

Yes, local and agree, very in tune with both schools. US News has ranked Elon #1 in undergraduate teaching for 4 years in a row. It’s an excellent school for the average/above avrrahe student to get a great education in a Goldilocks size university. Not for everyone, no school is, but it has a lot to offer. They prioritize teaching, student experience and experiential learning leading to outcomes. These are the imporant things to hit, not pools and steak houses.

Elon is not an elite school as no one ks trying to claim, but it is nothing even remotely like High Point in any regard other than location.
