My kid's school has all the counselors, admin, clinical staff and a few others manning the metal detectors. What happens when someone has a mental health crisis in the morning? Gigantic waste of resources.
I'd be mad if I was them it's not what they are hired for.

I emailed SB members and the principal and regional principal in the spring.
No response.
No one ever responds in FCPS. It's why they work so hard to not publish emails they don't care.

This is disappointing. For DC's safety, I probably will have to drive him to school in the morning and make sure he can enter the building right after the doors open to avoid long time outdoor gathering without enough security measures.

Gatehouse is this you....my kid was constantly losing 30-45 minutes of instructional time in History class and he was there 20 mins early. Stop talking at people you sound dumb and like you are sitting behind a comfy desk trying to make it all seem ok.
I think Gatehouse should all go back to the office 5 days a week with a required arrival time of 7:40. We can put in one metal detector in the front of the building and they can wait in line. If they get to their desk after 8:10, we will dock their pay.
Great idea. Hope they have gotten rid of any non-medical related work from home options for Gatehouse staff as well.

Honestly, I think all the pro-metal detector/everything is great! posts are from one Gatehouse employee. Every parent and student and teacher thought the rollout, execution and lines were absurd theater.

seriously, if you saw the pictures from Westfield last spring, you would not be asking such dumb questions. It looked like a fire drill. There was literally 1000 kids standing outside trying to get into the school. And that's without a whole grade attending.

They won't be safer, though. They aren't making everyone who enters or leaves the building all day long go through metal detectors, so anyone can still get a weapon into the building. How do you not understand that?
How do you not understand that some protection is better than no protection? How do you know they won't be using them during the day? Where did you read that?
The "protection" actually creates a much bigger risk - a large gaggle of students waiting in line.

Yep, anyone could hide a gun in a building at any point to be retrieved later. No one is safer. Its a show.
