If Colbert’s show was making money or even breaking even, it wouldn’t be cancelled. Always follow the money trail. In this case, the money trail led to a deep hole.
In addition to the show losing $40 million a year, let’s not forget that Colbert was being paid $15 million + per year. For a show that no one watched.
Sounds like a business decision to me.

+1
The $40 million/year losses have been reported everywhere, across the board. It was a financial decision. So typical for the usuals at DCUM to make it into a political conspiracy theory.

So, I'm not personally mourning the end of Colbert, but it's pretty obvious that Paramount is caving to Trump and using ratings as a fig leaf. That said, as a lifelong Dem, I hope we don't allow this bright shiny object to distract us from the really horrible stuff that Trump is doing to destroy our soul as a nation -- not to mention our economy. Playing culture wars games against Trump and MAGA is not a winning strategy.
He's taking over the Supreme Court, legislative control of spending, and the media. Just one of those should alarm every American.
Totally!
Anonymous wrote:Had terrible ratings and will certainly not be the last of these late night shows to be cancelled. The problem is the show just became an I hate Trump program and that turns off more than half of the country. More men watch late night anyway and they are not buying what is being sold. The last skit on the fake Melania was plain mean spirited. No way they would be done to Michele Obama. Colbert used to be funny but he just became bitter and mean. John Carson is never to be replaced. He understood that his role is not politics. These late night guys could learn something. Kimmel will be the next to go. He just goes on and on and on and not funny.

More like 20,000,000. I switched back and forth between Colbert and Kimmel every night.
No way you are younger than 65. This is classic 1995 TV habit.

Right? These old guys are unfunny progressive state propaganda hacks. Colbert used to be very clever and witty — but now he’s just an insufferable holier than thou dweeb. Honestly get a closeted gay vibe from him as well.
Literal state propaganda. Operation mockingbird.
