This administration (and its followers) don’t want States rights at all. They want every state, locality, and individual under the boot heel of Dear Leader.
Trump would be happy if governors protected their own states. But he learned last time that Dem governors tend to be idiots (Walz, Newsom) who think it’s a badge of honor to let criminals take over their cities, burn, & loot.
Except the criminals actually charged with the burning and looting and arson on police HQ and killing of police were right wingers. Look it up. Fact.
And the fires and looting started with the guy referred to as Umbrella Man, who has never been identified, who clearly was not protesting, he simply showed up with a hammer and started smashing windows, heavily disguised, and peeled out of there.

California has to import the vast majority of its energy. How will CA get enough oil to sustain its entire state? CA hospitals have to import a huge amount of medicine. How will CA get medicines from abroad when no countries will ship medicines directly to CA? They have to negotiate imports with a federal govt. CA would collapse in a matter of weeks as they watch the sticks of medicines in their pharmacies and hospitals crash in no time.
What makes you think that?
Because California would need currency to pay for medicine. No country is going to take some rando fiat currency from a state who tried to invent its own money. Foreign govts where most medicines come from don't accept crypto. Then there's no way to transfer billions of dollars to foreign countries since CA will be shut out of all global banking systems. You think they just print cash? Lol.
And foreign countries would be wary about doing business with CA directly, because it'd be a major provocation and a declaration of war.

Actual Angeleno here. I live less than five miles away from the detention center that the protests started at and are still centered around.
There are definitely a lot more cops on the street and maybe an extra helicopter in the sky compared to normal...but otherwise, everything is normal. There's a reason why most of the news media is showing the same few blocks over and over again in their riot footage, and so much of it is from previous days. The protests are still peaceful.
This deployment of troops is not at all necessary. It's the Trump administration itching for a reaction or an escalation -- anything to distract from the news elsewhere in the world and from Trump's own recent failures.
So as an Angeleno? Stop talking about us. Locals have largely sided with the "don't give them what they want" tactic and protesting peacefully. The best thing the rest of America can do to help is to also deny Trump what he wants, which is attention on L.A. Instead, talk about all the things Trump is trying to distract everyone from in the first place.

California has refineries for oil and would just get it from somewhere else, but more likely would just ramp up solar, wind, hydro and where safe given earthquakes, nuclear. On its own, California would strike deals with Europe and China and continue to be the economic engine that it is. Why would you assert that other countries wouldn't do business with California if it were an independent country? They would be a more reliable trading partner than Trump's US currently is.
Lmao. You need materials for all of that, dumbass. How do you build solar, wind, hydro without metal, solar panels (most of which are imported from China), copper, cement, nuclear materials.
Absolutely de-lu-lu dum dum. Once again, how would California strike deals with the EU or China? They would have no currency. They would be cut off from international banking and the US dollar. Even if California wanted to pay with its own, brand new currency, how would it do it given that it would be immediately blocked from the international banking system? And how would California even be able to import all of the materials, energy, and medicines needed to survive? The federal govt would block their airspace with the USAF, it would block trucking into the state to the east with the US Army, and it would blockade the entire western coastline with the full might of the US Navy.
You and the rest of the Dems clearly haven't thought it through.
The question is, how long would Trump be able to hold out without California before they dragged him from the White House? Without the tech, without the money, without the FOOD from California. Tweedle dumb has already handicapped research and engineering on the east coast. What’s going to happen, maga is going to learn science? Jesus, they got Mr magic crystals crazy pants anti vaxxer appointed.
What makes you think that the international community would side with Trump? Trump hasn’t make any friends. Maybe they will ONLY trade with the allied states.
Maybe California would patriate the 44 military bases, who knows?
You are also making a HUGE assumption about where military loyalties lie.
You don’t think that Newsom, who is objectively better and smarter in any measurable way than Trump, wouldn’t work details out first? Or that this wouldn’t proceed on a long predictable continuum?
Jeez, you sound like Trump telling Z that he doesn’t have the cards.
Two can play at that game. How long will you be able to transport food with gasoline cutoff from other states, because you've outlawed drilling offshore as a state?
Or are you going to embrace that now... kinda like loving Telsas, but then setting them on fire when it no longer suits your progressive cause?![]()
How well have you worked out California high speed rail? You've only been sucking at the federal teat for thrity years on that. Where are we exactly on that project, huh?
What will you do as more and more of Hollywood moves to Georgia and Fortune 500 move out of state because of your insane progressive policies?

They can withhold federal funds. As the economic powerhouse of the US it would get some attention.
Putting aside the legal issues, how would they actually do that? People and companies send their federal taxes directly to the federal government. They don’t go through the California state government first. So how would California “withhold” it?
Paraphrasing another post elsewhere:
The state of California has jurisdiction over the payroll processors which transfer withholdings to the IRS.
The courts with jurisdiction are in California.
Pass a law requiring all businesses in California to pay all federal withholding/taxes into an escrow managed by the state to be used to pay the federally legislatively allocated funds. Shift the burden of compliance from individuals to the state.
There are a lot of serials to work out, but it could be done.
This seems like it would obviously be struck down on supremacy clause grounds.

There aren't borders that can be protected. On the other hand a civil war now would destroy the US economy, and the public would see Trump as the reason it happened. I don't think it gets that far, but it also isn't out of the realm of possibility.
As it is, state compacts between CA/OR/WA already make a trading block and the same has or is happening with eastern states, so perhaps Russia gets its fever dream of a weaker north America.
Dumbest idea of all time. And what currency would CA/OR/WA use for International trade even assuming any country would trade with them? They would be cut off from banking and US currency. Individual states have no ability to back their currency even if they tried to invent their own. And even fewer countries would accept payment in CA dollars,.lol.
You Dems are truly delusional and haven't really thought it through, have you? Individual states would collapse immediately after being cutout of the banking system and from US currency. They'd lose all ability to obtain good from abroad, which is where tons of energy, food, and medicines come from.
First of all, this isn't a "dem" idea...the idea of splitting up the country has been the southern dream for more than a century and it has been fomented by Russia for decades.
Second, some states would fare better than others. A block of CA/OR/WA would control the west coast, have port access and economic opportunities as the 3rd largest economic country in the world.
I am not sure how well the former confederacy would do. Other than the Mississippi corridor, there isn't a lot there to spur jobs and growth.
Lmao..sure, you'd control the west coast with what navy, Air Force and army? California has zero destroyers, aircraft carriers, and AC gunships. As if they could take them over and run it themselves.
Lolol. De lu lu clown.
lol why would republicans fight to keep California? Besides California contributes the most personal to the US military. It’s just not California leaving. If California leaves no blue state would want to remain.
But let’s talk about your scenario. How is the US Pacific fleet supplied? Where does all logistics move through? Might want to look in to that before attacking California. Remember China will be watching.
Attacking California? Corerction: You mean attacking the leftist DNC and their operators in California.

If we are going down that route, then why would you assume the military bases and infrastructure wouldn't just stay with california? And where do you think the shipyards where this stuff is built is located?
