I’d take this up with the AP in charge of attendance. Send a screenshot of tardies and email that these are due to new security measures and will be ignored by you and that your student will not face disciplinary action.
My DC was tardy so often to first period class that ended up getting in school suspension that I fully supported, BTW. Just saying I believe in making the punishment fit the crime.

Any kid who wants to get a weapon in the building can easily do so.

Agreed and I wish they would do it or allow parent volunteers to stand at restroom entry and monitor.
Great idea, PP! Go to the school today and volunteer. Please get back to us and share how it goes......
I know several parents at my school who are furious about the bathroom situation. Their kids are afraid to go to the bathroom because of vaping, fighting, slap boxing, and videoing others without consent. Some kids even ask to leave school during the day to go home and poop. School admin is aware and does nothing, and does not care. I know several parents who would volunteer to stay outside of school restrooms if the school would allow it. Many parents are very frustrated about the lack of safety in these schools. Many Parents are totally oblivious to the issues happening. I do think parents were volunteer at some schools. Obviously there is issues with volunteer support and there won’t be support at all schools. It sure would be nice to at least have one possible solution instead of just complaining on DC urban walk and depending on admin, who does nothing and do not care about safety. The schools could also adjust budgets to hire more security assistants. Instead we have electives like guitar and ceramics prioritized over safety expenses.

How is this possible and how and why was this decisions made?
Anonymous wrote:Yes, our very large school had been pulling our traffic cop to help with the metal detectors and the kiss and ride and student traffic has been a nightmare--even with all the seniors gone. He was out there directing traffic today.
Anonymous wrote:Also totally agree on the bathrooms. My child's school has kids leaving during the day to use the bathroom at nearby businesses. Access to a safe, clean, monitored bathroom is much more important than all the BS FCPS spends money on.
