Just spoke to Barrie. They're still accepting applications and have an open house scheduled for this Friday for SSFS families.

If your kids are on the younger side, I definitely recommend checking out The Harbor School in Potomac. It’s pre-k 2’s to 3rd grade and they help you pick where you go from there (lots of independent schools in our area). The classrooms are small with two teachers. A lot of development happens in these young years and Harbor prepares them for everything. Not to mention, four grade is an entry point at all the schools. We are a second year family at Harbor and love it. I connect with my son’s teacher every day at pick up and drop off. It’s seriously a hidden gem. Amazingly, Harbor is still accepting applications!

If no one has yet mentioned, the Woods Academy may have space, especially in the middle school grades and especially for girls. It's Catholic, but more like Catholic-light and not a parochial school.

For younger grades there’s Concord school in Chevy Chase, MD. I think up to like grade 3 or 4.

Sidwell should certainly try to accommodate as many as possible.

Such shocking news! I can't imagine the stress and anxiety families must be going through. Highly recommend the Harbor School in Potomac for the younger grades - preschool to 3rd grade. Great community and amazing teachers/staff

You're not helping.

I wouldn’t send my kid to Washington Waldorf with measles on the rise in the area.

Do NOT recommend!

Wow I was looking at it what’s wrong with it?

We are another current FCS family and feel very lucky to be there. It’s a wonderful school and community. There’s one person on DCUM who takes every opportunity to trash the school. It’s weird.

I'm a different poster than the current FCS family person above.

We send one child to FCS, and we liked it. The building is nice, and they keep on top of things.

Are you already thinking ahead to 2026-27, or considering independent school for your child for the upcoming school year? Explore Friends Community School, a K-8 Quaker progressive school that thoughtfully guides young children through adolescence. Located on 17 acres in College Park, FCS offers small class sizes, a diverse and inclusive community, a commitment to educating the whole child, and a curriculum that emphasizes inquiry-based and hands-on learning.

Interested in 2025-26 entry? FCS continues to accept applications for the upcoming school year in select grades as space is available. Please contact the Admissions Office directly or submit an Inquiry Form for a status update.

The FCS Admissions Office is ready and willing to answer questions, discuss the school’s program, and share more details regarding the application process. The admissions event schedule and application for 2026-27 will be available by early September on the FCS website. In the meantime, please feel free to be in touch with FCS via phone (301-441-2100) or email.

I would steer clear of this one.

Our child was very happy there.

Go visit and decide for yourself.
