Most young people don't consider those cities "fun".
This with the exception of Miami and Nashville. Many young people want to move to NYC, DC, and Chicago for jobs AND fun. They're living in these cities, not looking to buy houses in the burbs.
+1
That’s why so many kids from across the country are trying to get jobs in NYC, DC, SF, etc.

They don’t want to. Millenials aren’t leaving en masse to the burbs. GenZ isn’t particularly interested in bringing kids into this world. Many are opting for co-living apartments with friends. LIC is building to capture this demand. They’ve been investing in the market, maxing company retirement with some getting in on equity options. They understand the gift of compounding.
Let the evangelical, brainwashed kids populate the south. Then they can secede. Or move to Mars with Musk. Or work for the billionaires fleeing to their secret bunker in Arizona.

The NE also has more liberal policies that young people tend to support. And you've clearly not been to NYC in the spring.
Younger people are more conservative. Times have changed, grandma.
NP - young men are more conservative than past generations. Young women are more liberal. This is a global phenomenon, not just in the US.
Boys mature slower than girls and are more susceptible to disinformation.
dp.. and I hate to say this, but they are also less compassionate.
I have a 19 yr old DS and 16 yr old DD.
DS said they couldn't vote for Trump because of how stupid he is, but he does lean a bit more conservatively than DD and is less compassionate than she is. I can see this play out within their friendships.
Anecdotal evidence, dummies.
I have a college Freshmen and a HS junior--both boys. Very emapthetic, very anti-MAGA/Trump. They have always been self-sufficient (straight As w/ no prodding or need from 6th grade onward). They do community service and play a competitive sport year round. Their friends are just like them. They attend/ed an all-male HS and the stereotypes on this board just don't hold up.
Granted- neither had any interest in the south or southern universities. NE/midatlantic or West Coast.
