He flies in every other week to do his shifts up in Sacramento and then flies home. This is the root of the labor issue with the Los Angeles fire department and other fire departments in California.

Apologies for some errors in this. I used voice to text and didn’t spellcheck. But I think you get the general gist of what I’m saying.

Sounds like more blue state dollars subsidizing red states economies.

You don't think red state taxpayers will be helping to bail out California from these horrific fires?

Bail them out with what? the money is in the blue States

Red state folks pay federal taxes.

No reds states are socialist. They take more money from the Feds vs what is taxed. Red states are poor. All the Republicans fund raise in California and NY not Texas or Florida.

The cynical part of me thinks it's to get a photo of Trump in front of the fire damage so that Newsom can use it politically to avoid further blame directed at him.

Biden was in California when the fires broke out. He already toured some of the disaster scenes on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Probably. Or Newsome realizes he’ll get more help from the incoming admin vs the useless Biden admin (since it’s run by unelected handlers that have so far done a poor job)

It’s politicians’ job to cope with climate change and to protect the population as best they can. You can’t just work to prevent it in the future, cutting emissions etc - you have to mitigate today.

Democrats are hellbent on “fighting climate change” versus adapting to it.

Only those that adapt to change survive.

The first stage is to acknowledge the problem. The GOP deny it. You can't adapt to something you don't even acknowledge.

And of course part of dealing with climate change is to adapt things to the new reality. But again with the acknowledging part...

GOP have nothing to do with California. California and especially Los Angeles is run by democrats.

I think it is good that he is doing this. Biden sadly is not able and it is a waste of resources to set this up for him. Newsom is going to need to change a lot of things and he can say he was forced by Trump. Who cares FYI-moving forward people need to be protected and some of the aggressive environmental stuff needs to be changed. It has been too much. Right now everyone needs to work together and fight about politics later. This fire is not finished and the fall out will be going on for years. I feel for these people. I am also wondering if anything can be done about the insurance. Was there any chance to find another policy. Could something force the insurers to grandfather if they are allowed to raise rates. I understand raising rates due to risk but people should not have been shut out of insurance. Wondering if Trump and Newsom can work together on this with the insurance companies.

If republicans are adapting, that is tacit acknowledgement. What democrats demand is that we have to acknowledge it is all human induced, and no, republicans won’t bow to this nonsense.

We are adapting while democrats scream into the sky.

Nope.

Imagine what the world would be like if Reagan had left those solar panels up and invested in clean energy instead of going all in on fossil fuels.

DP here. Why did Reagan (or the government for that matter) need to "invest" in clean energy? Shouldn't the free market drive the adoption?

Please give specific example of the GOP's attempts to adapt.
