Name just about any school in MCPS, and you'll be hard pressed to find a school that's safe and without serious violence, drugs, or other issues.

Blair is not the crown jewel of MCPS.
Blair Magnet, a small school within a school, is the diamond in the (very) rough.
It's at Blair specifically because Blair is a bad place, to boost Blair's stats.

Blair is not only the crown jewel of MCPS, it's the crown jewel of the whole state of Maryland.
I know the truth hurts and you're dying inside.

Not the previous poster but this poster is clearly trolling or oblivious. It not even top 5 in the county and most parents with means pay 7 figures to avoid it just like all the other east county schools. Sure some bus in from nicer areas for a program but they would go to Kennedy if that is where it was. They do that despite Blair not because of it. If it was desirable, Blair real estate wouldn’t be the cheapest school zone inside the beltway including most of Va. It’s only desirable to poor people and middle class who are afraid of PG and can’t do better. Look at the reputation for eastern middle school, that’s a large chunk of Blair’s general population… that is before them go to general pop.

Keep posting your fake bravado and pride, it shows you’re the one dying inside that just about everyone looks down on it.

Tell me which school in MD produces the most NMSFS? The most math Olympiads? Science Olympiads? Sciences Bowls? Most Intel/Regeneron scholars? Most ivy-bounds? The most decorated school in all of Maryland?

Before you can fix a problem you have to acknowledge that a problem exists. Poolesville is the best in MCPS overall, likely followed by Whitman, Wootton, Churchill, RM, etc. In fact, the last time SAT scores were released by MCPS, blacks at Poolesville had a higher score than blacks at Blair. As a magnet, Blair barely made rankings this year and as a school overall is in the low middle. The poster who was unhappy at RHS may want to consider moving to RM, which has higher rankings.

The reason why MCPS has to cheerlead Blair is because of all the money sunk into it's programs. If the truth was widely known, my guess is many parents would feel it's a waste of money compared to the bang-for-the-buck at other schools.

Poolesville is ranked #1 on paper, as is the case for all the other ones.
There's not enough Black students at Poolesville to compare their scores to any other school( maybe Whitman).
White students at Blair scored higher than White students at Poolesville.
Poolesville wishes it had one-fourth of Blair’s accomplishment.

Oh, you're the person who always publishes that old score list from, what was it, 2019? Too bad MCPS stopped publishing those score lists altogether - it might take you down a notch or two. Other accomplishments that Poolesville I don't think has that Blair had in '24? Attempted murder charge, ghost gun, stabbing..

But since you brought it up, did you ever wonder why MCPS does not ever publish school budgets by school? And what extra money some schools get out of the MCPS budget? Ever wonder why the BOE doesn't ask for it or insist that it's published? I do. I also heard a rumor that schools don't even advertise what these contests are or encourage their students to apply and it's reflected in the by-school budgets. It's easy to win a contest when the odds are stacked in your favor, isn't it? I'd love to see how much more money certain schools are getting, wouldn't you?

When you have a better reading comprehension, I'll take you seriously and answer your post

What a comeback. Aw, shucks. And I planned on being President someday. Now my life has no meaning and you put me in my place.

The economic stratification doesn't deserve any respect. The massive schools with few sports teams doesn't deserve any respect.

I bought a house in the Rockville High School area, based on the idea that it's rating was about the same as the one I grew up in from a Rural state.

Well the ratings lie. The elementary schools in the area are dominated by ESL students. The high school is filled with immigrants many of which have zero inclination to be there. Leading to high profile news coverage, such as the rape case where the students ended up deported.

The school I grew up at which had a similar rating had incidents, fights or whatever, but nothing like that, and they provided excellent advanced placement classes and advanced math tracking, which MCPS just doesn't offer. Want enrichment and advanced placement go to a different school.

The thing is I highly doubt we'll receive decent treatment if we buy a small house in a good school district, where all the rich people live.

At our earliest convenience, we'll be moving to a different school district in another county far away from DC.

My kid just graduated from Rockville and our experience could not be more different than what you describe. My kid had a great experience starting in ES, including lots of smart, motivated kids in his IB and AP classes in high school. A diverse school, to be sure, much like the world he will live in. Maybe the RHS experience was so positive because people who are prone to judge based on race or ethnicity move out and the people who remain are the smart ones able to see more than that. Lucky us!

Social sorting explains many things. You're concerned about diversity of ethnicity; I'm concerned about diversity of scholastic ability. How do explain the absence of smart kids at RHS, why do they have to go to some other school to get a good education?

You may think diversity is making your school stronger, but the sad fact is that academic achievements have been politicized because of that diversity leading to the segregated system you so cherish. Scholastics function much differently when diversity isn't an issue. Every homogenous rural white school has advanced tracks for math and AP placement.

You seem to have misread my post. There are plenty of smart kids at Rockville, my kid among them. Kids taking AP and IB classes, scoring 5s and 7s. Getting 1500+ on SATs. Getting in to Ivy League and other excellent schools. And thriving there. You seem to think ethnic diversity cannot coexist with scholastic excellence. I know from first hand experience that it can and does at Rockville. The fact that there are some kids who do not excel academically, for whatever reason, doesn’t prevent others from doing so.

My kid is reading three grades above level. I don't think it has anything to do with what is being taught at the school in fact, I think they are doing well in spite of what they do at school. So, yeah kids can do well, but does that mean the parent is happy with how much effort they need to put in to fill the gaps in the education to get the kids to actualize their potential? No, I am not happy about that. In particular there seem to be gaps in the physical education.

I think half of RHS parents are unhappy about the school I’ve heard, dunno why but I’ve seen negative feedback to be a bit more common than usual.

Don't believe everything you read on DCUMS. RM did have a "szwastika in the bathroom" incident that made the news. But you notice that although these incidents are fairly common at all MCPS schools (not saying it's right, but that it happens quite often), the one at Wootton was gaslit.

https://mocoshow.com/2024/03/16/letter-sent-to-richard-montgomery-community-following-discovery-of-swastikas-in-school-bathroom/

Once you see the pattern of which local county officials involved, then you'll understand why the real MCPS top schools are smeared on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, the poorer performing schools like WM, Kennedy, and Gaithersburg, don’t reach news like this.

I think half of RHS parents are unhappy about the school I’ve heard, dunno why but I’ve seen negative feedback to be a bit more common than usual.

We don’t have a school newspaper because they tried to expose her and they got shut down. She’s had at least 2 principals removed by making false allegations against them when they found out what she was up to.

IF this is true, why isn’t the OIG involved?

Because people in MCPS don't tell on their co-workers. There's a bizarre code of silence that exists among MCPS staff.

Good lord this thread really highlights the toxicity of the people who believe strongly in buying in expensive neighborhoods for the schools.

Lucky us!

The school that’s RM’s younger and less successful brother, had the rape incident, and perhaps more diverse than RM.

DD keeps in touch with a few kids from Rockville HS and they went to a MS magnet before wanting to go back to a school closer to them for high school. They are extremely smart and from what DD's heard they are really happy with their classes and peers. What are you even talking about?

I just don't think they teach logic wherever you're at. Why do things like this even constitute liberal debate. Well, let's unpack it... Kids went to a magnet, but then (doom sound) they went back to be closer for high school. OK so the rub, they can't get the magnet school teaching and attend the school convenient and close to their home. La Di Da.

I'm pretty sure you'll not understand this either. Can they fit anymore morons per square mile? Like I said I'm leaving at the earliest convenience.

It's the only way Blair parents can feel good. By importing 100 kids from other schools so they can ride the coat tails.

Blair is getting scary though. Guns? Attempted Murder? Wow.

I mean those kids can stay at their schools and try to make them as great as Blair. Why don't they? That’s right, because Blair is the best.
