Can anyone provide clarity on Monroe Scholar notifications?
I know that some ED admits were told in their letter that they are Monroe Scholars. Is it safe to assume that if your ED admit letter didn’t call this out then you are officially NOT a Monroe scholar—case closed? Or will some ED applicants receive a letter later later in the process along with RD Monroe scholars as well?

We'll never know but I'm guessing no?
My just sub 4.1 after junior year unhooked white female was admitted ED. Current junior and doing very well. Also, she had 3 years of HN science (Bio, Chem, Physics), but no 4th year. And went off the HN math track beginning in 10th w/ A2 (standard A2 and Pre-Calc, and standard not AP Calc). Ton of demonstrated interest, and a lot of things in the plus column/ had unusual course selections and an unusual profile. Took 12 humanities APs— everything offered at the HS but Psych (and only 1 world language). 36/36 on ACT reading and English (35 composite). Got credit for 9 years of foreign language in HS— through AP Latin, Level 3 in a second language and 1 year in a third language (self taught one year of Latin, one year of her second language and did an in person summer program for a year in a language not offered in her HS, but that she went on to major in in college, when she is learning a second, related language in her own. Real foreign language whiz). All the foreign language credit plus 4 years of orchestra meant a lot of unweighted credit. Also, was very involved in a heavily STEM EC and had been involved since ES. Etc. Her counselor at a top 1/3 FCPS HS said she would get in ED but probably not RD. She was right on ED.
Very pointy humanities kid, who applied for IR & foreign language, but ACT scores and EC showed she could handle the STEM required for the degree. Still an unhooked, white NOVA female with GPA below 25%. It happens.
I think a positive of ED, especially at smaller colleges, is that they can spend more time with each application, which lets them look at an unusual transcript like DD’s and see the method to the madness.
A bunch of APs, foreign language whiz, excellent ACT scores, great ECs….and that is considered unhooked?

Is your daughter a URM who talked about her identity in her essays and someone who goes to an underperforming high school? W&M likes good test takers. Unless the above two things were true, absolutely not. Maybe a waitlist with the thing like Northeastern's NU-In program would've been possible but definitely not an admit.
No, not an URM. Although both of her parents rose above their decidedly blue collar backgrounds. And not the best high school in Fairfax County, but also not an underperforming high school. Naviance has her looking like UVA was a definite no, WM was a probable no, VT looks possible but no sure thing, and everything else public in state looks promising, fingers crossed.
If she doesn't get into VT I will be surprised.
Me too, though her counselor advised her to make sure she applied EA to VT to make sure she had the best shot.
She's also thinking there's no way she'd get in RD to W&M (and she prefers JMU anyway) so she shouldn't bother applying RD to W&M. Part of me agrees with her but part of me says she should at least try for W&M.

With one caveat—there is a parent active on the page who HATES W&M and she comments negatively on many posts. Please don’t let the one person’s negativity scare you. No school is perfect, but I think W&M is pretty great in most aspects.
