That's not a "plan" that's Vivek speaking to Tucker Carlson about how much he hates feds.
How do you see this playing out? He and Elon will make this recommendation to the president and he can implement it virtually immediately via executive order.
Sure he can issue an EO but in reality agencies won’t be able to turn on a dime and implement the next day, especially those that have space issues. There will be 60-90 days to take effect and even then there will be lawsuits etc. plus wouldn’t he have to somehow override the TW Enhancement Act?

Is fully remote a huge thing? Maybe I'm just not well connected bc I don't understand where this omg feds NEVER go to the office, they're sitting home for 4+ years even comes from. Most people I know at various agencies go in 2-6 times per pay period. So 1-3 times/week. And at my agency people do it - it isn't mgmt looking the other way so people not coming in.
No, it's already special cases and quota jobs. Fully remote exists but is not the norm.
There are some people fully remote in every agency. Other employees do not like it because why someone has the special treatment? You also never see them. Most of the remote employees are not special or in demand. These positions should be eliminited.
We have hired people who are fully remote (like live in other parts of the country). Maybe 10 people in my office are fully remote. This is different than someone teleworking a few days a week but lives near the office. I don't see why we should eliminate the fully remote - we've hired some good people that way.
We've been much more successful in recruiting since we went remote. We were able to hire attorneys who didn't want to uproot their families or had a spouse's job.
Then these attorneys should not be hired. Enough supply of attorneys in DC want to work for fed government. Most remote employees got hired through connections, not merit.

I work for the USPTO and we're almost entirely remote. Eliminating all remote positions would basically shut the entire office down. People would be waiting 20 years for a patent.

Otherwise Vivek better come up with some OT for the entire federal govt. Seriously, this guy is an idiot.
The plan is for a 50 hour workweek without OT. See paragraph six:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/ramaswamys-jackhammer-chain-saw-plan-force-federal-workers-back-office-rcna180732
So he wants a 50hr work week without paying people for ten extra hours worked? Got it lol
Again, if you are a salaried FLSA exempt employee, like a lawyer or an accountant or a manager/supervisor, you work when your employer wants you to work. There are no "extra" hours.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:No one knows the answers to these questions.
However, Vivek has said he wants feds in the office 8-6 everyday and claims this can be done via EO. We shall see.
8-6 is illegal. Is Vivek a moron?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I know there are no answers but our office has hired quite a few remote workers. They actually make less because no DC locality pay. I wonder how they handle that.
I think the idea behind requiring RTO is that many people, including people who are hours away from a physical office, would quit and then not be replaced.
Ironically some of our best employees are remote. That would be a shame.
But most of them are not.
