I don’t think it’s an offensive word at all. It’s simply a word that young people use to describe themselves in terms of race.
I expect to see more words like this in the future, as the world becomes increasingly diverse.

Sometimes new words can be taken the wrong way.

I'm a parent of mixed East Asian/White children in Southern California. My kids and their friends use the term Wasian. We have a number of Black/Asian friends, and they use the term Blasian. I think we used the term Hapa a decade or two ago. I don't find any of these terms offensive.
