I believe he didn't get a homestay offer so he got a place up there.

This season, DCU picked up the following for their 2011 group. I am sure there were more but these are the ones I know.
5 from VDA to DCU
2 from Arlington to DCU
1 from Alexandria to DCU
0 from SYC

This is what baffles me about SYC. They said they have good players and develop them, supports their players but not able to place any players for 2011 and little to no one in the other age groups with DCU. They have good players and the conclusion that makes any sense is SYC is not advocating for their players and potentially blocking them from being picked up.

No, they don't really have good players. They have early puberty strong athletes with mediocre soccer skills. In this regard, DCU knows what they are doing by not falling for the trap of size.

Partially agree. They have a few that have strong technical skills. But it’s not going to be utilized with the way they play.

OK, I guess. I also partially agree.

But SYC did have 2010s move to DCU, Philly Union, and Red Bulls this year. Two had only been with them for a year, but still. And I'm not sure doesn't DCU doesn't fall for the trap of size. They'll take some exceptional smaller kids, but I'd say size is definitely a factor, and maybe weighted too heavily.

So did those families reach out to Philly and Red Bulls on their own?

If one does not get an offer from DCU, or does not want to go to DCU, can they reach out directly to those clubs? It seems u need a coach’s recommendation or at least your coach know about ur attempts to get on to another academy.

The Red Bull kid had been with SYC for a few years (2-3) whose parent drove him hours to get there every single practice. Really nice kid who trained hard on his own. Very happy for him.

The post says they drove him hours to get to SYC practice. It does not say they're doing that now.

Hence the question mark

I think all players playing in MLS Next league aspires to be picked up by an academy and on the pathway to pro. Not sure why the coach need to be told that a player is interested in moving to an academy.

Fair point.

If you ask the TD at SYC he will smirk and tell you DCU is not a good club and they would rather hold the player back than send them there.

Irony with that is DCU didn't pick up any 2011 players from SYC. There were some great players on that 2011 squad but that destroyed when 1. HG took over. 2. When JR took over. 3. When

Do coaches even have a say? Do they usually reach out to the scout and tell them there's a kid he should look at??? Not just SYC, any club.

Yes.

Some of the players that have gone on to academies have been with SYC since the beginning. Either coming over with LMSVC or from SYC rec as 5 year olds. Just saying...
