+1 this is what we have heard from our recruiting director as well

In regards to pre Sept 1.... The school my daughter ultimately committed to never reached out to her club coaches, but invited her for an official visit on Sept 1 for the following weekend. One school told her club coach she was #1 on their list (a school she didn't have on her list, but after hearing this, she reached out). Never got a call, text, or email. The best thing to do is expect the unexpected. Do not put all eggs in one basket, and prepare for some disappointment, but also be happy for hearing from schools you never expected. Sept 1 was fun for our DD, but the next couple weeks were tough (she committed mid Sept, but it moves slow and the ghosting is real). Good luck to your daughters, and the process absolutely sucks so don't listen to the "enjoy the process." Just feel confident that she'll end up in the right place, and the "go where you're wanted" mantra is a great one to follow.

For the types of players that will be contacted in early September, they most likely are the driven athletes who work out and play lacrosse all year long anyway. Is there going to be some competitive drama on a top D1 roster? Of course as it was on the club and HS team. The benefit however can be huge, help with admissions, tutors, social group on day one. Playing D1 lacrosse does not seem as stress inducing as say joining a sorority at the University of Alabama.

High school or club lacrosse doesn't dominate a player's life like it does at a top D1 program. All of the players at top D1s are top club players who are driven and play the sport year round. It's not a stressful experience per se but can be a depressing one if the player isn't getting meaningful minutes, is being ignored by the coaching staff, or has no time outside the sport to explore other things the school has to offer.
There isn't anything incorrect about this response, but another response is "Nobody Cares, Work Harder". These kids are entering real life, and they shouldn't be shielded from the reality that people they play or work for expect results. If they can't provide the results, it doesn't make them a bad person, but there will be ramifications such as less/no playing time or not being the lacrosse queen bee anymore. Yes, it can feel bad, but life is hard. There is also a transfer portal available now. I wouldn't recommend a kid going to a school with a plan to leave in two years if it doesn't work out, but it is an option. They shouldn't be afraid to go for a Top 20 school if it's an option for them. The OP is painting an overly depressing picture of high-level lacrosse, and I agree there appears to be an agenda. Maybe they have a 2026 kid who's a Top 20 bubble player, and they're trying to suppress others' interest??? Who knows....

What I understood is that schools really can't communicate with players and families until September 1 of Junior year. That said, I have also seen what appears to be informed commentary suggesting that there are schools that you might be certain will reach out who may not, and vice versa. If there are no comms, how would a family develop a view on who might reach out? Club communication? Guessing on who is at games? Prospect camp interactions? Some additional context here for those earlier in the process, and for the first timers, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
It really is different for player and for every school, but our experience was we got very heavy views on Sportsrecruits (around 20 views) from the schools that were interested in the last month before Sep 1, and the schools communicated to our club director to gauge the level of interest that the player had in their school (ie was the school in the players top 3 schools, etc...). I could give you a longer dissertation here, but there is a FB group dedicated to this kind of thing. It's well-moderated, and you have to be accepted by the moderator. Its' called Recruiting Discussion: Parent-to-Parent Women’s College Lacrosse. Since you can't comment on posts anonymously, you don't get the drama that we come here for , but it's very informative.

+1 I learned about this group on this board a couple of months ago and it is a great place to find information

Hope they're enjoying some of the down time around campus. That said, I would've had an internship or job that was still going, or made sure my parents had scheduled a family vacation.

You must mean fall sports athletes then. Lacrosse players go back with everyone else since it's a spring sport. They do have their summer workout packets to do though.

It's a spring sport. My D1 DD is not at school yet. Top 20 program.
