I am a JHU alum and my kid did not apply ED 1 or ED2. So, I think that is why he was rejected. Hopkins like prospective students who apply ED and they have become anti-legacy. So, we were expecting a rejection.
My kid is okay though and not the least bit upset. Hopkins was his first rejection. He has already been admitted into UMD Honors, UMBC, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Penn State, UT Austin, and University of Michigan. He is still waiting on Rice, Northwestern, and Ivies.
Congratulations to all the students who have been admitted! I wish you the best of luck at Hopkins because it is a great school.![]()
No legacy is fine. Discriminating against legacy with better stats is not fine.
You are taking it better than us. The email circulating defining white, male, hetero, as privilege was enough to make me question my alum…but they’re standards of scores not mattering and taking lesser and lesser GPAs. They have flown the coup. Baltimore is getting worse too.
What did you expect with a student body that is less than a quarter white? Their admissions department is actively anti-white.

However, I would sympathize with the thought that many people who consider law school when they are teenagers don't actually end up applying later.
Amazingly, at the moment here in mid March 2024, Johns Hopkins still requires undergrads to get a COVID vaccine. Even Harvard has stopped requiring that. JHU is now the top ranked school in the US with such requirement.
Wow. That is pure insanity. You would think they have a better understanding of public health policy at Johns Hopkins.

If you have a legacy/athlete hook to land elsewhere equivalent, good for you. JHU is for top students with no hooks.
Not anymore. And they have one diversity essay. That’s what they now focus on in admissions. I stopped donating my $. When the alumni outreach took us out to dinner he told us that practically every dinner alumni are complaining about how the school has fallen off. It used to want rigor. Now they are letting in so many test optional students. It’s become a joke.

My very high stats kid is debating whether to apply, leaning against for this reason. It's just not necessary to have another 4-year grind to achieve good outcomes after graduation.
Please do your own research. Spend the day there, do an overnight. I know several kids there who are having a great college experience.

Anonymous wrote:If I were an alum I wouldn’t give them a cent-what with how vociferous they have been against children of alumni and their whole DEI agenda which is beyond woke. As a physician I respect them from a medical standpoint but not regarding the Covid vaccine mandate (and many in the scientific community agree-it shouldn’t be a political issue). My DC had an opportunity to attend but is going elsewhere and I’m glad.

Stop answering yourself. None of us care. Our kids are all vaccinated and have been for years.
Actually, some of us scientists DO actually care.
Glad your kids are vaccinated. Mine are also.
But for a university to have a COVID vaccine mandate in March 2024 shows a complete disregard of science and statistics. It is just really bad policy, plain and simple.
Definitely gives me a moment of pause. What is going on at Johns Hopkins?

Any of them pre-med? That seems to be the worst.
