I can’t stand them. They look insane. So does lip filler.

I think they are spending a lot of time and money on something that's not so good for their eyelashes, but it must make them happy.

Not what i would choose to do, but it's not about me.

I'm 44. I've never worn them myself, but think they look great at a big event. For everyday wear, honestly? I think they look super ridiculous and a bit desperate.

Unpopular opinion, but very skillfully applied eyeliner (and good mascara) definitely creates the impression of thicker lashes, and can look much more natural than fake lashes. And an eyelash curler, unless you have naturally curled eyelashes (which curly haired people often do).

If I can tell they are extensions then they look bad.

OP, I suggest a lash lift and tint. I did this at home and though the first time it was hard, it makes a big difference even on my short lashes. Fake lashes look fake.

They look ridiculous and you aren’t fooling anyone. I am not deliberately trying to be mean but if you want the truth, that is it.
And I do put on makeup, color my hair, all that prepping stuff, so I’m not against beauty products. Just not those ridiculous lashes.
I agree.
You don't get out much. I spend $400 a month on my lashes. You can't tell. It's a commitment though.
Then why spend $400 on lashes if no one can tell?

By the way, what an enormous waste of money. What is so wrong with your real lashes? $4,800 a year on eyelashes is really sad.
I can tell. They look pretty. I spend a lot on upkeep. I also get my hair and nails done weekly. I make a lot and save a lot. My retirement goals are being met!

It would be a waste of money for you, but not for me. Especially, because I can afford it.
Perhaps you could spend some money on punctuation lessons.
You sound a little jealous with your station in life.

Maybe I could, but I am on the internet with a stranger, not writing a legal brief.

I have a neighbor who had to dress up “full glam” and go to concerts, charity events, and awards dinners for her job 2-3 nights a week. She has lash extensions but they are not gaudy or obnoxious looking.

The people I know who always have manicured nails with almond shaped extensions, lash extensions, laminated and dyed brows, blow out perfect hair, etc. are people whose profession depends on their appearance to some extent. When I see a mom at the PTA meeting or soccer practice in sweats with no makeup - but lashes and nails - I assume she also has a glam job and I think “better her than me!”

I’m genuinely curious what are these jobs in DC that require a glam look. Sales, news anchor, real housewife, and hairstylist come to mind. Even that is a stretch that acrylics and laminated brows are “required”. What else?

Non-profit fundraising - people with titles like “VP of Development” or “Donor Relations”. The people employed by non-profits to wine and dine the big money donors, plan and host the charity events, and generally go to a lot of parties and be photographed with very rich socialites.

If you think that's what nonprofit fundraising people do, you are about 20 years behind. As a COO at 5 different large organizations, I can tell you that it doesn't really work that way.

DP but also spend $4800 a year on lashes. As I aged, my natural lashes turned very light and sparse. I just constantly looked sick and tired. Fake lashes restored that volume and length, plus I don’t have to waste my time applying mascara every morning. Also, what seems like a waste for you is a drop in the bucket for some people. So mind your damn business.

If you can't tell, why do you spend $400 a month. That makes no sense.

I agree with 'low class' or 'male-attention seeking' being the gut reaction to anything obviously overdone or fake (lashes/lips/makeup/weird nails). I act normal but just kind of am embarrassed for them, as a woman like 'why are you doing that with your face?'

If something looks truly natural it's not on my mind at all.

Laminated brows, faux lashes, blown out hair, acrylics is a trend that is valued in some circles, but it comes across as Kardashian-esque in others.

It was photographs well and for some people that is part of their job.
