The truth is this, if VYS or BRAVE new what they were doing this merger wouldn't be necessary. ECNL boys is generally a league over reach and a disaster across the board so this is about the girls side primarily. McLean has been a founding member of ECNL and has had an excellent track record of success. ECNL over saturated Fairfax in reaction to Girls DA years ago and now league is pruning back.
BRAVE/BRYC have not proven themselves at this level and that lack of on field success as well as college placement success does not warrant them a 2/3 vote in an area they have relatively little experience and success.
While McLean results have not been what they've been in the past their college placement has not fallen off, because they are known, trusted and respected by colleges.
So, no VYS is in over its head and really should put their ego aside and just shut up and listen to McLean.
If McLean wants to learn how to win a U16 State Cup or get two kids on ODP then I'm sure they'll be all ears.
This. This thinking is exactly why McLean failed. This McLean coach can't accept what the McLean Assistant Executive Director himself said -- that ECNL was tracking Union's metrics, and they were no bueno. And that their ECNL-RL membership was also in trouble. A sinking ship needs support. Swallow your pride and take the help that VYS and BRYC are offering. If you're concerned that you'll lose your coaching spot on staff, go talk to the folks at McLean who are making 1/3 of the decisions for the new club. Make your case for why you should be on the coaching slate. Or if not, update your resume. You're wasting your time on this forum.
Problem with your narrative is that Brave was in the same trouble and place, but Brave isn’t communicating at ALL and McLean is only mentioning that in passing because rightly they’d expect Brave to be transparent with families on this point and it hasn’t been.
What does it matter at this point? It’s been decided by ECNL, which was communicated. Stop deflecting. VYS and BRYC are ready to move forward. MYS’s internal chaos is holding this up.
Here is how this plays out. People leave McLean because VYS and BRYC suck. The new Union will struggle and then ECNL will just pull the plug entirely.
This will be because of two little community rec clubs getting in over their head and running another club into the ground.
Arlington, NVA, VDA all get stronger while VYS and kills a good brand in two shor years they end up playing in NCSL again.
I agree this setup fails. Fairfax County is too big not to have a team though. I think the best scenario long term is actually just to have one ECNL club in the county which operates completely independently of any feeder club. Feeder clubs don't matter anyway. It's all about proximity. Just let FXU have its own staff and run its own club. All local clubs will be default partners by virtue of proximity and then VYS and MYS and BRYC can return to their happy places of managing their own rec and lower level travel programs without having to deal with each other.

It's always about the coaches. So tiring. The number of kids are staying the same. Obviously the number of teams and coaches can also remain the same in the DMV.
That said it would be in VYS's best interest to give a slight majority to MYS. They are doing better and one of the reasons Brave didn't succeed as well is because they didn't take a smaller role when it was originally formed.

After all of MYS’s dysfunction is now so apparent? No way. VYS and BYRC need to step up to instill a better culture (more familiar to the BRAVE community) in FVU. A healthy injection of good organization, humility, respect and kindness would be a start.
That's hilarious! My kids have played for BRYC (back when it had ECNL) and MYS and to say that BRYC will instill a better culture and inject good organization, etc is such a joke. They are one of the most disorganized clubs out there with terrible team cultures. McLean is far from perfect but better by far than BRYC in every respect.

I’m not with McLean. The only way this works out is if McLean and VYS share the power and give BRYC as little power and influence as possible. If BRYC is going to lobby for their TD’s kid to get a team, etc., this will go downhill real fast and Fairfax Union’s run will be even shorter than Fairfax BRAVE’s.
What has VYS accomplished to deserve such a controlling interest?
They were a ECNL feeder club. They never had the patch. VYS is a small time grass roots, community club. They know nothing about college recruitment, ECNL level competition and player identification and development for that level.
BRYC, simply proved they couldn't cut it at that level and were about to be kicked out until they were given a stay of execution with VYS. Clearly VYS wasn't quite the fix or neither club would be in this spot right now.
VYS has fields. that's it, that's their contribution. VYS only has 7 girls who made State ODP. So, by all means, such a rich player pool and rich history should be driving a ECNL ship that fell into their lap without doing a thing as a club to earn it on their own.
It will fail and VYS won't care because they will just go back to grass roots, community soccer, which is what they are good at.

I’m not with McLean. The only way this works out is if McLean and VYS share the power and give BRYC as little power and influence as possible. If BRYC is going to lobby for their TD’s kid to get a team, etc., this will go downhill real fast and Fairfax Union’s run will be even shorter than Fairfax BRAVE’s.

The truth is this, if VYS or BRAVE new what they were doing this merger wouldn't be necessary. ECNL boys is generally a league over reach and a disaster across the board so this is about the girls side primarily. McLean has been a founding member of ECNL and has had an excellent track record of success. ECNL over saturated Fairfax in reaction to Girls DA years ago and now league is pruning back.
BRAVE/BRYC have not proven themselves at this level and that lack of on field success as well as college placement success does not warrant them a 2/3 vote in an area they have relatively little experience and success.
While McLean results have not been what they've been in the past their college placement has not fallen off, because they are known, trusted and respected by colleges.
So, no VYS is in over its head and really should put their ego aside and just shut up and listen to McLean.
If McLean wants to learn how to win a U16 State Cup or get two kids on ODP then I'm sure they'll be all ears.
This. This thinking is exactly why McLean failed. This McLean coach can't accept what the McLean Assistant Executive Director himself said -- that ECNL was tracking Union's metrics, and they were no bueno. And that their ECNL-RL membership was also in trouble. A sinking ship needs support. Swallow your pride and take the help that VYS and BRYC are offering. If you're concerned that you'll lose your coaching spot on staff, go talk to the folks at McLean who are making 1/3 of the decisions for the new club. Make your case for why you should be on the coaching slate. Or if not, update your resume. You're wasting your time on this forum.
Problem with your narrative is that Brave was in the same trouble and place, but Brave isn’t communicating at ALL and McLean is only mentioning that in passing because rightly they’d expect Brave to be transparent with families on this point and it hasn’t been.
What does it matter at this point? It’s been decided by ECNL, which was communicated. Stop deflecting. VYS and BRYC are ready to move forward. MYS’s internal chaos is holding this up.
Here is how this plays out. People leave McLean because VYS and BRYC suck. The new Union will struggle and then ECNL will just pull the plug entirely.
This will be because of two little community rec clubs getting in over their head and running another club into the ground.
Arlington, NVA, VDA all get stronger while VYS and kills a good brand in two shor years they end up playing in NCSL again.
