The truth hurts. You aren’t a Democrat if you vote for Hogan. The Senate has the ability to pass gun control laws which Hogan will not. Hogan opposed an assault weapons ban passed in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, and once elected, Hogan vetoed expanded background checks and stricter requirements on gun sellers and refused to sign legislation banning ghost guns. So a vote for him may get you a nice tax cut, but kids still won’t be safe in their schools. Hope the trade is worth for you. Jamie Raskin - left
Wes Moore - mainstream Dem
David Blair - center-left

Larry Hogan - center-right
Glenn Youngkin - establishment Republican
Winsome Sears - establishment/MAGA
Andy Harris - full MAGA
I’m not as familiar with VA Republican politics but SW Virginia GOP would be pretty MAGA.
Anyways the sweet spot is between Moore and Hogan. We need more of them, and more David Blairs and Abigail Spanbergers and fewer Kristin Minks.
I am sincerely laughing at the idea that Kristin Mink and Marc Elrich are far left. I guess I missed where they called for nationalizing the means of production?
And Jamie Raskin is as mainstream a Democrat as they come.
Have you ever read anything at all about Kristin Mink? She makes AOC (who I like, even if I don’t always agree with her) seem like Reagan.
Plus, AOC is smart.
Not only have I read about her, I have talked with her and worked with her. The obsessive hatred of Kristin Mink among the on-line right-wing trolls in Montgomery County says a lot about the on-line right-wing trolls in Montgomery County, but nothing about Kristin Mink.

Is the attitude that may hand Hogan the election. Again, I don’t WANT the senate to flip republican, and Hogan to win. But I’m so frustrated with other democrats (oh no, lowercase!) who stick their heads in the sand and assume every single person not 100% in lockstep with is some gop covert operative.

Schools overcrowded and standards rapidly declining, taxes continuing to rise with no real accountability (I haven’t forgotten the $14m electric buses debacle in MoCo), cramming through zoning changes by handwaving away real concerns … in pursuit of equity and inclusivity, we have lost the plot.
I’m anti-racism, anti-sexism, anti-homophobia with the best of MoCo citizens. I want people to be safe and welcome in our community. I’m also tired of elected officials telling me I’m “-ist” for asking why kids aren’t learning to read, pointing out no research has been done by the MoCo Planning Committee on infrastructure effects of upzoning, and being tired of being told that the uptick in crime isn’t real, since it ‘was worse in the 90s.’
I feel like I'm in upside down land. I’m at the point where, if I could find a legitimate moderate republican candidate who is pro-choice, I’d be voting for him/her. I can’t be the only democrat feeling this way? If it weren’t for the GOP’s backwards views on abortion and gun control, I’d be voting Harris/Hogan, frankly.
You are in the same position that many of us are at this point. We are left leaning democrats, even liberals, trying to navigate local politics run by progressives. Who we voted for locally (the MOCO council, for example) turned out to be beholden to progressives, and they are quite happy to sell us out for the progressive cred that they hope will move them up. In the meantime, we are stuck hoping that their success fails them up and away.
As a country we want to drag the Overton window to the left, but it’s quite far enough left already in Montgomery County. So, of course, the progressives screech that we are pro Republican or something just as silly.
There it is again. Now you're sock-puppeting. I'm reporting this one.
