How do you know what is best for these people? They may not want your crappy government housing or food. You should just give these citizens cash so they can make their own decisions about their futures. Instead of spending money housing them in jails, just give them the money so that they will have time to work on improving themselves.

This is the crazy part. We are not talking San Fran or Bahamas or a favela but DC.

We have done this to ourselves deliberately.


I’d really like to know where exactly these people are living who want no crimes persecuted and no jails and no accountability and 26 year old men treated as juveniles. Where do they live? Certainly not among them, having a gun pointed in their face. The people who want no consequences for anything are delusional, but all they will reap with this stance is all they are supposedly against. Sadly the downward spiral of DC is already spilling over into adjacent counties.

The Judiciary Committee needs to step in and exercise regular oversight over USAO DC re: adult carjacking offenses. When are those "surged" resources coming from DOJ? Carjacking is supposed to be one focus.

These fools should be forced to listen, not speak, just listen to the grandfather (believe he's a pastor) of the young woman college student killed by the disgruntled DC young man on new years in the hotel in Friendship Heights - when he randomly fired off a few caps through the door to show everyone how p*-ed off he was. Actually it makes sense to steal a car for a few hours, use it to run errands such as the grocery store, laundry mat or a run to a food bank. Then dump it somewhere. It literally makes sense, rather than a car rental which requires a valid ID card, credit card, etc. This is really about resources.

DC should have a car rental program in which impoverished residents can check out a car for a few hours and then drop it off a hubs located throughout the city.


Teens joyriding and criminals using the cars to commit other crimes are not "running errands."

MPD reports 49 carjackings YTD not 51 in 4 days. PP where are you getting this number?
