(Business major).
Currently his top choice is UGA of one's he's in is UGA. I know it's a bloodbath but the wisconsin one is killing me. Especially because his close friend got in. We visited and loved so much. He even loves the cold lol.
He does currently have straight A's but what else can we do or send? (Was also deferred at Michigan)
Got into UMD but not into. Just a vent. I can't believe we will have no idea where he's going until the spring. So torturous.

It is sickening that real people think of this in today's world. Even if it just one person, it shows just how much Wisconsin has declined.

It's a great education. All good
I went to UMD. Loved it. Son would choose UGA over it. It's more that wisconsin was perfect fit.
No school is perfect. I grew up in Madison and did grad school in Athens. It is totally possible to love both towns with your whole heart, and still to see that both schools have plenty of flaws.
Rejection always hurts. Time to process that and learn to love the one you’re with. If it were me I’d get offline, go for a run, and pull myself together so I could model that for DS.
My son is more chill than me. I'm not sitting around crying but just sad and blah. Athens was great- we visited. It's super cute. Just see him more at wisconsin.
So you need to get over it.
Send LOCI and do what you can to show WI it's still your top choice, but then realize it's not likely to happen and get excited about UGA (or his best acceptance )
Follow his lead and don't stress him over it---be the damn adult
I think people here are thinking this kid was added to a waitlist. Or don’t understand what regular decision even means. WI is very likely to happen if he has almost good-enough-for-MI stats.
Michigan defers nearly everyine , very few denials at EA stage.
Not this year apparently and kids with great stats and classes. Maybe it was winning national football championship and it upped the applications. Most everyone we know threw in an EA there and also Wisco and saw similar results there as well.
Not sure what you are talking about, nearly everyone reporting MI results here and on college confidential was deferred.

It doesn’t look like they want one.

Yes they do
It's a form
But not a sep detailed letter with updates on your activities, classes , ECs etc?

I’m missing the point of the sentence above by PP. Can you please clarify it for me.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:What's wrong with UMD? It's a good school. OP is feeling miserable for no reason.
He doesn't want to go there. Isn't remotely excited. Likes UGA so it will be fine. Just disappointed about wisco. Don't care about Michigan.
dp.. my super high stats kid got rejected to the T15 he applied to (CS major). And I mean super high stats from a magnet program. He wanted to go oos.
He got deferred at Mich, and got into UMD. He was very upset for a couple of months.
Then UM came back, but by then DC decided UMD was fine. He didn't want the cold LOL. He is at UMD now. He told me a few weeks ago during winter break when we had all that snow that he hates walking in the snow. I said then it's a good thing he didn't pick UM.
He also has a chance to transfer to GTech if he wants to, but he said no. He likes UMD. He especially likes the 4+1 program, but he had enough credits going into freshman year that he can double major and graduate in 3 years, +1 masters. And he got merit. So, he will end up with 3 degrees all for under $120K. I mean.. not bad. The remainder of the 529 funds will go to his sibling, and we will give him the cash instead, and a car. That also greatly pleases him. I think for DS, the rejection was an ego killer given his super high stats.
So, even if your DS goes to UMD or UGA or wherever, I think it will work out. It's a big school, and football is big, but there are so many other things going on.
When DS was disappointed, I told him the same thing that I told him when he was going to HS. It is what you make of it. You can either be miserable, or you can seek opportunities, make connections, and choose to be happy.
I love Posts like this. Where the kid goes to the 2nd choice school and winds up loving it. My kid got into UMD but had some bizarre vision of not being able to escape high school. Unfortunately, turned it down. I was very disappointed. Went to one of the other choices that she was not excited about and loves it now. We said she could try to transfer to one of the schools she didn’t get into initially and she said “ no”. I like where I am! We just want our kids to settle in and be happy. Good luck.
