Mom here. I myself got into HYPSM back in the day, and got some interesting reactions. A close high school friend ghosted me. Friends/acquaintances of my parents grilled me on how their kids could get in too. Local newspaper did a profile on me.

This is why people who go to these schools will say "I go to school in Boston..."

Unless you grew up in the expensive Boston suburbs where a lot of Harvard graduates end up living. Nobody cares. Do you try to trick them by saying Boston where there are no Ivies?

I am quoting myself but I also know it’s a crapshoot so I am not jealous. I used to interview for my Ivy alma mater and I literally stopped after so many kids I interviewed didn’t get in. The straw that broke the camel’s back was - I interviewed a URM with a disability- and in my interview report I wrote: worked as college admissions counselor and I also interviewed for you for X numbers of years and this is the best candidate I have met, etc. and even she got waitlisted and I literally said I’m done wasting my time with this. But at least I’ve known since my kids were born that it’s a total crapshoot now.

No - I know a particular college isn’t end all be all and it’s all about making the most of where you end and I hope everyone does well.
