No I’d bet all facilities are full for Sunday. Space is always at a premium. Even if they weren’t the people who organize rec basketball in County would need to be working this afternoon on a Saturday to pull that off and those people have regular weekday jobs.

This is what was expected!!! The conditions were fully known yesterday afternoon. The storm was going to end, the temps were going to drop, here’s our capacity and plan to treat (or not) roads and parking lots and sidewalks. This is why all the county stuff is open today.

That’s good, should have been the case all along. There’s absolutely no reason at least some of the buildings can’t be open right now. I understand needing to make an early call for school days because of all the sheer number of moving parts. They do not need to make decisions about whether to open for optional weekend activities at 3:45pm the day before with no additional snow in the forecast.

They do when none of them feel like doing an early Saturday morning weather call. Sadly I think that’s part of these bad decisions.

It's cold out. Some people have ice. Most of us don't. To cancel anything for that is stupid. Everything society deems important is still happening today. The only stuff that is not happening is the stuff that society thinks doesn't matter. That's what pisses me off.

It's not a priority to the adults who make decisions. If it was, they would wait until 6 am to make the call about Saturday morning and wait until 10:30 am to make the call about after noon, and wait until tomorrow morning to make the call about Sunday. If they did that, all the games this afternoon and tomorrow would have happened. Because it's cold but not terrible out.

And I get that some of you are fine with that. But hear me (and care) when I saw it's a really big disappoint to a lot of our kids. The rec season is like 8 games total. The kids get one practice a week (and many of those have also been canceled). Arlington only has one basketball team per middle school, so almost no kids get to play for their middle school. And to make a HS freshman team kids are competing against 80 others. For most kids, rec basketball is *their* season. They care about it. They look forward to it. And we shouldn't take it away from them just because it's cold out.

Even if they’re not how is this relevant to whether APS should be able to clear their facilities and open? It’s not. If some 22207 cul de sacs aren’t clear, APS should shut down?
