Not ED Chicago and Cornell unfortunately with a 90.
May I suggest Grinnell, Bates, Denison, Davidson ED. My kid's friend with a similar academic profile and similarly talented got in ED at Davidson.
Dp, but as as I posted before, they love private school kids. I think it’s possible.
I am talking as a parent from a selective private school. a 93-94 from a selective private school can get into ED Cornell (the harder ones) and U Chicago. A 90 will be an exception. The Davidson example I gave was for a private school kid. She had a ACT 35 and a 90 GPA
Interesting! I think regional feeder schools come to play. A <95 and a 1590 with all 5's in APs could not even think of applying to HYPSM pragmatically because there were no national level awards. The kids who get into Harvard are those with 96+ and a gazillion top levels ECS. And we are a hard school with grade deflation. But not in the NE.
A 93-94 from our private can get into any Ivy, Duke, etc, especially when they are closer to 94/95. I know a number of these kids THIS year.
It's really difficult to get a 93+ at some private schools and is the top 10% of the class if not even higher (top 5%).
Totally agree
which school(s)?
STA for one. Unhooked admits to Duke, Stanford, Harvard, Dartmouth, so far this year among kids with GPAs 93+.
It's ridiculously hard to get a high 90s average across all classes for 4 years.
Much harder to do than the averaging of letter grades across quarters that MCPS does.
--->You can end up with an unweighted 4.0 GPA in MCPS with a numerical average of 84.5 in every class.
Colleges recognize this.

Agree, Davidson regularly accepts kids from our private outside top 20 percent of class.

She isn’t getting into Wake or BC with that GPA, the rest are possible
I have Scoir data for a similar private. WF is right on the line, BC is generally doable.
It all depends on the relationship the private has with one college or another.
Not with multiple Bs, including a B-.
Yes WF is possible if private school.
I would have ED2 there…
Note I know people with half Bs applying to WF and getting if ED1….
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:If its truly a highly selective high school that does not inflate grades eg TJ, a B+ to A- grade gpa would qualify to any of the T25’s
This is not true! a B+ to A- grade at TJ won't get you admitted to UVA for sure. UVA is looking for 4.3+ minimum there and only offers to about 1/4 of the graduating class. OP, if your kid is at TJ, UVA and VT are not match schools if the grade is B+/A-.
What about a kid with similar stats from another FCPS high school like Chantilly or Centerville. Not aiming for School of Engineering.
It's the same thing. It doesn't matter which school your kid goes to (Chantilly, Centerville, McLean, Langley, etc). You are being compared to other students at your school. So a B+/A- will not get you into UVA and VT engineering. Other big OOS publics or tier II privates/SLACs are likely your targets. So it's sad that a TJ kid with a B+/A- grade won't get into UVA but likely if they were at their base school earning a higher GPA. A bit generalized, I believe NOVA public schools' B+/A- kids are all competing for the same spots. The lesson is to go to a less competitive FCPS school and earn a higher GPA if a higher ranked college is your goal.
