Yes, DP, I’m in the latter category. Too long, too many tangents that weren’t that interesting to me in developing the main story.

Same here. Honestly I would have liked it better if it was just the Tom Lake storyline. The present day story line is what I found boring.

I think this one was a little overpraised. I like Ann Patchett a lot, but this one was definitely a bit boring.

A friend just told she preferred the flip - liked present day better than the Tom Lake angle.

I'm reading Commonwealth by Ann Padgett. I liked The Dutch House and Tom Lake and this one has some good reviews. It starts slow and I almost gave up but I'm glad I didn't. It's kind of confusing at times, she likes to jump back and forth in time and sometimes in a confusing way, but I'm over halfway through it and I'm really liking it a lot despite that.

Just read The Guest by Emma Cline. My first 2 out of 5 rating in a while.

Currently reading Evil Eye about a Palestinian-American mother feeling repressed (at least so far). Really enjoying the parts about Palestine and descriptions of Palestinian food. But the author does a lot of telling, rather than showing. Interested to see what happens, so I’ll soldier through.

I just read that recently as well. I thought it was fine, but I found myself skimming parts. It wasn't nearly as gripping or shocking or thought-provoking as other similar books, in my opinion.

well I'm officially supposed to be anti-lgbtq but its just a lovely story. loved it, we are all just people. If your kid likes umbrella academy this is good as a YA read as well. I want to read the other 2 stories in this world but I started the other one about the dead guy and it was just a gay romance and I dont even like straight romance but the author has this very gentle approach that is so refreshing in this rather nasty world we all have decided to be a part of. it doesn't have to this way, we can just choose kindness and let the chips fall, so what if my house is smaller, Car is older, as long as I dont have live with the fact that IATA.
