I agree with you, but that’s just our individual preference. I am sure my SIL who is 6’ would disagree with us.

That’s not a very nice thing to say. What’s wrong with working at Walmart? Why do you clearly look down on them? Perhaps they are happier and have a better work-life balance than you have. Either way, I was the equivalent of a cheerleader in my home country and I now have a PhD. If we measure people based on educational and work accomplishments that guess I did very well (despite my looks).

This is awful. You should have spoken to her especially if one of your kids is shorter. I am the shortest (smallest and most attractive) person in DH’s large family of giants (women are all 5’10” and above and men are all above 6’). While they all love their heights and are very proud of their 12 year old 6’ girls, they have never said the things your MIL said to you.

You should have said that most men prefer smaller women to giants (that may not be true, but that would have shut MIL for good)

A lot of women are also overweight, even if it's just a little. So a shorter man makes them feel bigger. The two friends I have that are dating men their height or shorter are all very slim and in great shape.

If a short male is in good shape, smart, objectively handsome, and has a successful (high income) career, he will be just fine. It’s only an issue in high school.

I have skinny kids (take after DH’s side and will probably fill out in their 20s) and they’ve gotten a lot of grief about being skinny….not just DS but also my DD!? So it seems to apply to girls these days too. They were/are late bloomers but average height. Suburban UMC large public school, if that matters.


People are commenting on your daughter’s weight? That sucks. They are probably jealous.

Omg. My younger one used to get that sh@t—even in preschool !!! We had a neighbor say something about our oldest being short in middle school (he was about 50% height). We are late growers.

I love my kid now towers over the most obnoxious mom who’s done stayed the same 5’7” he was in 6th grade.

Senior is now 6’1” was 5’4” in 9th.

Sophomore looks very young, very very skinny (15years old)— just starting to grow now. 5’2”-3 last year. He’s around 5’7” with a baby face and voice hasn’t dropped. I think he is going to end up taller than older sibling. And this kid took so much abuse about his height—even from ahole coaches in 6th-7th grade (not basketball).


Same story here with my late blooming DS. We’ll see if his younger brother follows suit (only in 8th grade right now). I was never all that surprised about teasing from other kids (terrible as that is..teens are immature)- but the comments about my “short” DS from other parents…seriously WTH is wrong with people? Middle school was the worst of it. And coaches…don’t even get me started. LOL.

I was tall in the 80s as a girl and went to private school. Tall girls and short boys were made fun of constantly. UMC people want things to be perfect, like small to average size girls and average to tall boys.

I think you are on to something much bigger there and it's a bit unsettling

My nephew is 6'6" and his fiancee is 5'4". His brother is 6'4" and wife is barely 5'. You get used to it.

+1 I'm barely 5'; DH is near 6'3". I don't even notice the height difference anymore. Married 20 years, with 2 teen kids at just above average in height, and still growing. DS may hit 5' 11.5" to 6', and DD will hit 5.6", maybe slightly more.
