it's actually not irrational but i'm glad you started this thread bc I've been wanting to have an opportunity to say out loud to someone that when people cross the street in front of traffic (ie they are crossing without the light) and put their hand up as if to stop traffic, like as if they are somehow more important than you driving through a green light, I want to KILL them.

My husband has done this too. So weird.

Also light related... We'll be getting ready to leave the house. He's standing around in the family room or sitting on the couch watching TV while I'm finishing up little details like getting myself ready, finding the car keys, grabbing the dip for the party, kenneling the dog... And as we are walking out the door he will grumble about leaving the lights on as though it's all my fault that we're wasting electricity. "So, turn them off," I respond. Or "why didn't you turn them off yet, then?" And yet. Every time.

Weirdos who are still obsessing about what other people do or don’t wear.

And no, I don’t mask, so don’t bother being predictable. Thanks.

Moms in the college/ university forum who use the expression “tippy top.”

Also, the term “super cute,” when spoken by a supposed adult.

I think my teen has had 5 of these so far with various friend/activity groups and we always seem to get the friend who wants the most obscure stuff and not something you can just walk into target and grab. And speaking of Stanley cups, for the latest secret Santa with her closest friend group—yep we got the friend who requested a Stanley cup. Seriously? Not gonna happen.

But that's not how Secret Santa works? you don't know who is giving the gift, so how you do request something from them?

Unless they just proclaim "whoever has me, I want a stanley cup" ?[/quote

Basically yes—the gift itself is not longer secret. Just the gift giver which takes all the fun out of it. Her groups all have google forms so whoever gets Larla knows what Larla requested. Ridiculous if you ask me but must be the way Gen Z does secret santa these days.

I don't know who started this trend, but it has got to stop.

See, that's not an irrational pet peeve. You're right!

Thank you for the validation. I need it. Because it really, really bugs me. It is pervasive in my company. I hear high-level people using the word myself incorrectly. I really don't know where it started.

Especially when someone says, "Myself and Joe will attend."

They also will inevitably "she gave it to Joe and I" and "Joe is older than me."

I don’t see it too often on here but I have seen it occasionally. But I hate how Twitter short hand text speak is infiltrating Reddit and other forums. It’s so stupid. You have nearly unlimited characters on a forum. Please just use vowels. I’m talking about the people who constantly type “sth” for something, “tho,” “nvm” for nevermind.

How do you know they're not sick or immunocompromised? That's pretty ignorant...

"Gift" as a verb. It sounds SO stupid coming from a native speaker. Like how do you speak English as a first language and not know that verbs and nouns are different. Do you gift a gift? OMG my DH gifted me a gift of a gift card! Adult is headed that way too. "Yay for successfully adulting." This one at least is still a little tongue-in-cheek, but people will talk about gifting someone something with a perfectly straight face; I don't think they're trying to be silly. I think they honestly don't know how wrong and dumb it is.

And "comfortability." Especially since the pandemic. "We need to assess everyone's comfortability with indoor events." Do you mean... comfort?

Makes me think less of anyone who does it.

Add "prideful" to this list.

It's slowly replacing "proud" and it drives me crazy

These are my peeves, also. I would add "the dog likes to be pet.". And "she text me." I hate these with an irrational passion.

+1

I would add, "drug" used as the past participle of "to drag." "I drug it out of there" = nails on the chalkboard.

Naturally, it's a Southern U.S. usage.

Omg. Volunteer at a private school who helped with lost and found for years. Add to that:

-people who ask you where their child’s lost possession is and ask if you can bring it to your child. No.
-people who use only their child’s initials in a school of 450 kids
-people who use items from the uniform exchange and then get mad because you don’t recognize that all items with a graduate’s name from 2017 belong to their child.

Parent: have you seen Larla Wong’s sweatshirt?
Volunteer: no, there aren’t any with that name
Parent: are you sure? It’s labeled!
Volunteer: no, no Larla Wong
Parent: did you check for one that says Larlo Walker?
