Bought The Mists of Avalon and was really looking forward to reading it. That’s really disturbing! I could never get into her books when I was younger so I never heard of this but just the Wikipedia overview is shocking. Anyway, if you’re looking for Arthurian retellings that don’t creep you out every time you think about the author, I really like Mary Stewart’s trilogy.
I was also excited about Mists of Avalon and then found out about the sheer depravity of the author. I know “death of the author” and all that—but what I learned about her, I absolutely could not get over.
Anyway, thank you for the Stewart rec!

Have a New Sex Life by Friday
This was a good book, similar on the same style of five love languages but more into the sex life and not just love language stuff. I found it because I'm out of credits on Audible and started browsing free books (didn't know those existed) and saw this one when I started searching things I was interested in. Finished it in a day (its about 11 hours).

Subject: What are you reading for December?
Prom Mom, by Laura Lippman - ugh, it's a 1/5 for me. Mediocre idea and really poor execution. This does not feel like a finished novel from Lippman at all. I loved the Tess Monaghan series and have read all her other standalone novels, so I was really looking forward to this.
Now I'm starting The Golem and the Jinni, a rec from this board, and am really excited to finish off the year on a better (reading) note.

I'm finishing up the year with The Good Lord Bird by James McBride. I've been up and down with my enjoyment of it, but I think I'll end up really appreciating what he did.
I'm also reading The Language of Butterflies - a pop science book about butterflies.
