Visi should immediately re-write the entire web site provisions concerning performing arts. It reflects a pre-COVID view of their program which has not existed for some years.

More: As expected, the previous part-time choral instructor from GU will not be returning.

This means that Visi has new directors of its athletics, performing arts and religious activities this year.

Visi recruited the female head of a choral and performing arts program at a university to lead its performing arts. The husband of the new director has also been hired and is a highly-qualified, classically-trained accompanist from Switzerland. The new director is already on campus and will be hosting some gatherings of performing-oriented musicians in the immediate future. Apparently, piano and voice lessons will be available. I do not have any other information, but this is good news.

Find an outside source for this.

Such as

Local community theater, or private offerings (like Creative Cauldron in Falls Church).

The person they hire needs to be personally outstanding in at least one aspect of performing arts. She should focus time, talent and budget in that area and overwhelm the school and Catholic community with great results. Focus on one or two priorities rather than dilute efforts across an array of tasks. We wouldn't task a single coach to teach basketball, lacrosse, soccer and swimming and expect quality results across-the-board. Only a fool would attempt the same approach in performing arts. Do one or two things very well during the first two years and only then consider expanding into other areas.

It is fine for students to seek involvement in the great Gonzaga program, but they should also have a quality level of program on campus. I encourage continued insistence that the school retain a much higher quality staff and present significantly better program offerings in this area. We will never have taxpayer-funded theatre facilities or a large fine arts department, but we can and should do far better with the resources that are indeed available. We should adopt the identical attitude we have toward the other great opportunities provided to our daughters and turn this around.

Agree totally. It should be given the same commitment as sports. Such a disappointment when you have a kid who is really into the arts and are met with what they currently have.

+1 the Visi students (and girls from a few other schools) have shines in the Gonzaga plays they last few years! Good that they are getting more support at their school.
