Seems they missed an option. Eliminate the Deal feed. Costs no money and helps with Deal overcrowding as well.
The same person drops this idea into every Bancroft thread even though it is a non sequitur.
Bancroft has always fed to Deal. But the Bancroft overcrowding is a new-ish problem.
So am I understanding correctly that the proposed feeder change is no longer on the table? Bancroft will retain Deal/JR feeder rights unless Muriel says otherwise?

But at least the school was being expanded to future-proof it! But wait.. now it is clear that the massive rebuild and expansion didn't take into account the student population growth, even though it has been on an upward trajectory for well over a decade. So to make space for the obvious capacity problem, DCPS is recommending
adding extra classrooms by covering the soccer field, which is an amazing resource for energetic elementary students and the neighborhood alike. By my count, that will be the third time the soccer field will be torn up since I've lived here.
Bancroft is an amazing community despite all of this. But what a massive waste of our tax dollars.
Yes, they have a combination of inability to plan and inability to project manage.
For pure dollars, nothing beats Ellington's $150 million renovation vs the $50 million budget.

Once the people west of Arkansas Ave were in the Deal boundary. That grandfathering went away. The number of parents west of Arkansas that sent their kids to Powell was very low. I know because we were one of those families. Powell is wonderful but it has had limited appeal to those who are really focused on sending their kids to WOTP MS.
I’m tired of trying to convince my neighbors that there is nothing wrong with Powell. I think people make their decisions and dig in their heels and there are no ways to change opinions. I think if DCPS/DME should make a changes on feeders, they need to just do it. People are unpersuadable and you just need to make a good decision and stand by it.

Bancroft’s former principal is now Cardozo’s principal. It’s unfortunate Cardozo hasn’t enjoyed the same “glow up” under his leadership.

Demographics is destiny. Seriously. If you get upper middle class families into your school, things go well. If not, they go south. Everything else is noise. The value-add of DCPS and even the DC charter system is minimal at best. Everything is selection effects. Everything else is marginal at best. Basically the game is (1) does your catchment area have said families and (2) can you convince them to come.
Give a Deal feed to Raymond or Powell and watch the amazing profess that happens.
+1. The difference between Powell and Bancroft is the Deal feed.
Didn’t Powell use to feed to Deal? Was it better then?
