They had hoped that the new DCPS school year would stem the summer crime wave, as it had previously. But the joke is on them (and us) because these kids have just stopped going to school to enter the year round criminal workforce.
So who says that DC is failing in vocational education?
And a lot of these 13 and 14 year old armed carjackers and stickup kids are being groomed and coached by adults and older kids, so there's even an organized apprenticeship program. /s

Again, let’s be clear, these proposals are not intended to make a difference. They are intended to pretend that they are trying. In order to actually make a difference, DC political leaders will need to admit they were wrong and embrace the very pro-active policing strategies that they have eschewed, including aggressive use of Terry stops, undercover work/vice squads, and aggressive prosecution of even minor offenses.
Good point. We are completely fcked when it comes to crime. It will get even worse before the 30 year slog of slow improvement can even begin.

Decades of progress erased overnight. Will probably take 20-25 years again for improvement and there’s no way we’ve hit rock bottom yet.
These folks seem completely incapable of changing course. Every thing that they try to do is more pathetic than the last: dashcams, airtags, mace, etc.
These folks are supposed to be liberals and their response to crime is either ideological, so you could say that it is libertarian to the extreme (ie “you are on your own”), or we can just come to the conclusion that they don’t know what to do or cannot do what they know they are supposed to do because of fear of personal embarrassment of admitting a mistake. There is no reason for them to change and DC politicians never voluntarily quit (unless they are indicted), so every one of these folks will be around indefinitely and it will be necessary to either defeat them in a primary or wait for them to retire. At this rate, it is going to take at least one full generation for DC to get political leaders that can admit there is a problem and propose time-honored solutions that work. That will be rock bottom. Following that, as we saw, it will take another generation to see results. Who has 30-40 years of their life to waste of this?
The term you are looking for here is "Anachro-Tyranny." Criminals can do whatever they want, but if you attempt to defend yourself then the full weight of the law will come down on you. Being merely "on your own" would be a drastic improvement.
