He should have been tried as an adult. He did some pretty heinous crimes.
I hope this guy gets expelled if he is in school. No one should have to go to school with someone like that.
I hope Arlington, VA gets blasted in the national news for this too.

wow thanks for revealing yourself. yes, hiding in the bushes to jump out and grope FIVE women (while filming it!) is heinous and pretty much proof of a very disturbed mind. I don’t think he should be in jail but probably some kind of residential treatment facility for at least a year. something is seriously wrong with him.
Please. These sexual assaults are closer to pranks than a heinous crime.
wtf is wrong with you? it is not a “prank” to stalk and jump women at night to grab their genitals and film it.
He grabbed the crotch of her pants. No genitals were touched.
Right, and if I punch you in your face while I have work gloves on no assult occurred.
1. more minimizing here - "it's not assault, she had pants on!"
and 2. bravo person replying - literal spit take, there is tea on my screen now.
Stop lying. No one said “it wasn’t assault”. Just that he didn’t actually touch her “genitals”.
Wait so like...if you grab someones boobs above the shirt you didn't touch their boobs, you touched their shirt?
This position is deeply not defensible friend.
"Genitals" means vulva/vagina and is misrepresentative of what happened. He grabbed her "crotch" from behind which was reported as "buttocks".

There is some threshold for it to be considered sexual assault/battery and his actions did NOT meet that threshold.
What he did was wrong - 100%. I'm sure the victims feel violated. He should be punished and receive treatment. But don't pretend like it was something much more serious just to push some political narrative.

it’s an extremely bizarre case to choose to make the “they’re just kids” argument. truthfully I am more sympathetic to a young teen who gets pressured by peers/adults to carjack - they deserve a chance to be rehabilitated (after a swift & appropriate sentence). but THIS kid is a budding serial rapist. There’s no excuse or explanation.
You're aware that the sympathetic carjacking teens are given no swift or appropriate sentence? Your example is exactly the point. This teen is being given a consequence, albeit not swift. We are debating whether it's appropriate - whereas the armed carjacking teens are given no sentence at all and continue to merrily assault people and wreck cars.
right. my point is (as strange as it sounds) that younger teens falling under very bad influences are good cases for second chances; but serial sex abusers are not.
DC agrees with you. Second chances, third chances, fourth chances until they get to 12 and murder someone.

The woman doesn’t know his intention. He immediately grabs her crotch. She assumes she’ll be raped and chooses fight mode. She pulls out her legally registered concealed gun and shoots the perp with the intention of preventing rape. She’s a sharp shooter and he dies. She’s charged with manslaughter at best or murder. Is this justice? These degenerates need to be rehabilitated in prison for the duration of extent of the crime. I’m not a Republican.
So 5 minutes for each assault? Guess he's being treated disproportionately roughly. How unfair.
Would a woman be justified in shooting him? Probably. That doesn't make his assault heinous though.
Who are you to deem it not heinous? And the truly heinous part is that he filmed it and did it FIVE times. Where do you think a kid like this is heading?
Calling groping “heinous” minimizing the crimes that actually are “heinous”.
His future isn’t written in stone. He is a minor and should be guided towards doing the right thing, not thrown away in jail for a long time.
there is something wrong with this person mentally. it’s not lack of “guidance.” it’s a mental issue and possibly a history of abuse. serial sexual abusers start young. but very nice that you care so much about him, and nothing about his future victims of escalated assaults.
DP. He was caught and he is facing consequences.
Future victims? Are you Cassandra, is this Minority Report? Why is he already irredeemable and deserving of life in prison to some posters on this thread?
You have your head extremely in the sand. But please - elucidate what’s going on with a 17 year old to stalk and jump out on female victims to grope them at night, five times (that we know of) and film it? What leads to this behavior and what makes you think it won’t escalate.
We don't cane or whip people in this country anymore. Since you think this behavior will escalate, what do you think would be a more appropriate or effective consequence?
A longer juvenile detention, longer sentence if parole violated, and confinement for at least 2 years to a residential treatment facility. After that, parole that lasts at least 10 years requiring compliance with ongoing treatment.
